Frances JoAnn Bartholomew, of Miles City passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, surrounded by her family eleven days before her 80th birthday.
Frances was born in a private home on December 17, 1936 to June Joanne (Fairbanks) and Clarence Joshua Jones. She was the second of four children, an older sister Alice and two younger brothers Bill and Ed. She attended schools in Miles City and graduated from Custer County High School in 1955. Following graduation she attended Presentation School of Nursing where she graduated in 1959. During her schooling, she practiced her Pre-Med in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The doctors she worked with had great respect for her medical knowledge. She was high esteemed in the profession of nursing and continued to keep up her nursing certification until this day. She also practiced nursing at Holy Rosary, Glen Lake, Minnesota, Fergus Falls, Minnesota and the Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado. On March 11, 1959, Frances married Donald Wayne Bartholomew and they began their lives together on the Bartholomew ranch 60 miles south of Miles City where they cultivated the land and raised cattle. There they raised four sons on this ranch which they purchased and continue to call home. During the time the boys were attending school, Frances put her nursing skills to use working in the Custer County Health Department. In 1985, Frances retired from nursing but continued to be the family and neighborhood nurse when needed and was known to use her nursing skills on livestock as well. Frances was an exceptional bookkeeper, anything she did was done to perfection.
Frances enjoyed working with cattle, gardening, sewing, reading and carrying out the general duties of a farm wife. Frances enjoyed genealogy and was very proud of the Genealogy book that her and her daughter-in-law Karen produced and published. She enjoyed shooting prairie dogs and had her own 17 and was a very good shot. Life in the country was quiet and close to God and she loved it. Frances thought it was interesting how long a year back in the fifties seemed compared to how short the last fifty years have been.
Frances is survived by her husband Donald Bartholomew of Miles City, MT; three sons: Max (Ruth) Bartholomew, Mark (Karen) Bartholomew and Morris (Ragna) Bartholomew all of Miles City, MT; a daughter-in-law, Deb Bartholomew of Miles City, MT; a brother, Bill (Pansy) Jones of Miles City, MT; eleven grandchildren: Nicole (Mike) Wacker, BreeAnn Bartholomew, Logan Bartholomew, Marti (Jeff) Burleson, Taylor Bartholomew, Nicholas Bartholomew, Joshua (Sarah) Bartholomew, Caitlin Bartholomew, Billie Rae Bartholomew, Matthew Bartholomew and Randii Jo-Ann Bartholomew; nine great grandchildren: Cody, Miles, Carly, Karina and Fredrick Wacker, Saddie and Emit Burleson, Jackson and Carson Bartholomew and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Clarence Jones, her mother June (Jones) Bourn, step-father Claude “Bud” Bourn, her son Miles whom she will be laid to rest by, a brother Ed Jones and a sister Alice Maier.
