Frances Jean Salazar Miller, age 90, of Miles City passed away on the evening of July 22nd at Friendship Villa where she has resided the past two months from a short battle with cancer.
Frances was born in Bryon, Texas on April 2, 1929 to Pete and Paula Rangel. Her family resided in Texas until she was of school age and then all moved to Forsyth, Montana. She was the youngest of ten children. She married John Salazar of Hysham, Montana. They then moved to Miles City where they farmed sugar beets. In 1953, Frances went to work at Holy Rosary Hospital as a surgery tech, after 17 years with Holy Rosary, she moved to the Veterans Hospital where she managed central supply in the surgery department and retired from there. Frances managed to be very successful in her job positions at both hospitals with very little education. After retiring from the Veteran’s Hospital, she moved to Bozeman where she was remarried to Sherman Miller in 1982. They shared fishing and cutting firewood after retirement. They later moved to Miles City where she has resided since.
Frances loved to cook and loved cooking for people as often as she could. Mexican food was her specialty and people knew her for her enchiladas and tamales. She was a member of the VFW and was very dedicated to it. She loved to visit with people and loved to dance. She always managed to help others if she could.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Jim and John Salazar; her husband Sherman Miller; all her siblings with the exception of one sister, Lydia. She is survived by her children: Patricia (Monte) Herzog; Cecelia (Steve) Mills; Tom (Darla) Salazar; Robert (Tana) Rangel and a daughter-in-law Kathleen Salazar. She was blessed with thirteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
