Francis Cadwell, age 87, of Ridge, Montana passed away on Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Powder River Manor in Broadus, Montana.
Francis was born October 24, 1920, at Thompson Creek, the son of Ernest and Reathel (Craft) Cadwell. He attended grade school at the Walloth School and high school in Broadus. On December 11, 1947, Francis married Eleanor Dinstel. They ranched at Ridge. Four children were born to this union: Paula, Eugene, Steven, who was killed in a tractor accident at the age of three, and Rebecca. Francis was a hard worker and had a way with animals. As a young boy, he herded sheep and was the hired man for various neighbors. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, often as the silent listener to conversation. Although known as a quiet man, he had some special stories he liked to tell. Francis was a member of the RidgeChurch and the treasurer of Cadwell Springs Camp for many years. He also donated land, time, and money to the camp.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eleanor in 1979, two sisters, Thelma Metts and Evelyn Taylor, a half brother, Russell, an infant half brother and two sons-in-law, James Jackson and John Bingaman. Francis is survived by three children: Paula Jackson of Alzada (Ridge), MT, Eugene (Debra) Cadwell of Alzada (Ridge), MT, and Rebecca (Roger) Bingaman of Rapid City, SD; three sisters: Ruth Walloth of Newcastle, WY, Grace McKnight of Hastings, MI, and Carol Mattern of Colorado Springs, CO; two brothers: Gilbert of Colorado Springs, CO and Philip of Pascagoula, MS; nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus. Interment will follow at the Ridge Cemetery.
