Francis Junior Flanigan, age 84, of Volborg passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.

Francis was born on August 9, 1926 in Great Falls, Montana to Frank and Helen Flanigan. He was the oldest of four children: Francis, Helen Morgart, Grace Zuelke and Jake. The family moved to the Coalwood Community in 1930. He attended grade school at Murray School and graduated from high school in 1946 in Miles City. After graduating, he worked on the family ranch.

Francis married Audrey McLean on May 20, 1952 and had three daughters: Carole (Dave) Richards of Broadus; Darlene (Ed) Songer of Grass Range; and Sandy (Bud) Williams of Volborg. Francis enjoyed sports, especially playing baseball on Coalwood and Volborg teams. He had a great talent for playing several musical instruments including fiddle, piano and accordion. He enjoyed dancing and square dancing. He loved the ranch, worked hard every day and rarely left it for any length of time. Spring was his favorite season as he couldnt wait to get in the fields and work the dirt. He also looked forward to the new livestock being born and really enjoyed all wildlife. He had a great sense of humor and loved a good story. He was a member of the Broadus Masonic Lodge.

Along with wife and daughters, survivors include his seven grandchildren: Carla Marinko, Jeff Considine, Wendy Richards, Kim Thompson, Ashley, Kori & Taylor Williams and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Grace Zuelke, nieces Yvonne Clevenger and Hazel Rickett.

Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Range Riders Museum.
