Frank Martin BearQuiver III, Taa’e’vena’hane, “Kills At Night” died peacefully at his home when his heart gave way on June 24, 2021. He was 43 years old and a Zionsville resident of over 30 years. He was born on May 13, 1978 on Mother’s Day at Crow-Northern Cheyenne Hospital in Crow Agency, Montana, he was the only beloved child of Frank Martin BearQuiver, Jr., Ho’evahtamehnestse “Earth Walking” of Busby, Montana and Patricia Helvey BearQuiver of Indianapolis, Indiana. His father and grandfathers were honorable discharged veterans (Marines and Army). Frank was a proud member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe, Wohehiv (Morning Star) enrolled January 29, 1979. He attended Montessori School in Indianapolis, Zionsville High School, Ft. Lewis College in Colorado, where he met his long-life friend, Izzy. He obtained an Associates Degree from University of Indianapolis, focusing on biochemistry. He had a current Wastewater Operator Class A (ww020622) license. His passion was being a water protector, making sure water was safe for the community. His employment was in 2021 at the Suez Nat gasoline plant in Beaumont, Texas.
Frank’s huge heart and mighty love was evident in everything he did and for his loved ones. People and pets adored Frank, being respectful, well mannered, and kind word for all. He admitted his mistakes when he was wrong, never held a grudge, and integrity showed in his actions and words helping others, especially his mom. Being patient with her fussing over the cats and being a good listener. His “Hi Mom, I love you!” will be sadly missed.
Most of all he loved spending time with his family, which meant everything to him and the world with his grandparents. Irene Jennie BearQuiver, Ma’etmonde’ “Red Paint Woman”, daughter of Charles Killsnight, of Greenleaf, Montana, Valentina Bartolini Helvey of Florence, Italy and Robert Marting Helvey of Logansport, Indiana. He loved all things Hoosier-State Fair, 500 Race, sugar cream pie, mushroom hunting, and fishing. Fond memories of his childhood on Arundel Lane in walking on Sundays to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Boy Scouts and visiting Aunt Margaret on her farm. His aunt Mary was a second mother to him, and he loved her very much. He also had the same love for his Montana home and family, relishing the wonderful frybread uncle Edward made, dried meant, buffalo stew, berry picking with his cousins and hunting with his uncle Richard. He enjoyed spending time with his dad and uncle Edmond fixing a car or just joking around. He spent many hours under the “Big Sky” laughing and teasing with family and friends. He was proud of the Cheyenne Ways and even did a little fancy dancing as a child. He was also fortunate to visit Santan Ana, New Mexico, seeing his aunt Loretta and uncle Al and cousins, especially Todd. He cherished aunt Ranee, aunt Terra, and Aunt Gracie’s wonderful beadwork, quilts and hugs. His best friends Geoff of Zionsville was a long friend and supported Frank and was able to meet his families and attended one of the Sundance.
The beautiful cloud shadows of the rolling Montana hills fascinated him and it is comforting in knowing he is forever under the shadow clouds.
His “hobbies” were Star Wars, chess, an avid reader of Sherlock Holmes, X-box and writing stories and poems. Sadly, after Frank’s death his numerous writing and poems were found in journals he hardly shared. Frank’s goal was to be a family man, marry and have children.
In Frank’s words… growing up I dreamt of playing football, then I wanted to be an architect and finally when declaring a major, I remember how much fun I had with a childhood chemistry set (since banned because of all the noxious chemicals). That pure, exuberant memory coincided with my feelings, changing my whole destination. At this very moment, I wonder why, in an instant, I switched from architecture to chemistry. I’ve always wore my emotions on my sleeve and made an important decision based on feeling. The tighter I hold onto the past the more time slips through my hands. It is inevitable how my heartaches to be told “everything is going to be ok, just be nice and everyone will like you”.

Dear Pat, I received the update on your great loss and studied the paperwork, warm thoughts, the obit., and the sweet pictures of memories, on this website. I am so very sorry for your loss and I can tell Frank was indeed a compassionate person to care for others (esp. the elderly) and he was attractive, too, on the outside. Thank you for updating me and I am raising you up in prayer. I am honored you took the time to share details about him at such a stressful time, to hope to allow others to care and pray for you. We went to the Z-F Fellowship together and we will connect together , as you have time later. You are my sister in Christ! Meantime, to say , I can tell Frank was special to write down pieces of thankfulness to you, as a great mother. One’s written word says 7 times what one says in speaking. You indeed raised him ever so well. Love in Christ, Deborah Riedweg …. My mother’s words help here- “God gave us love, someone to love He loaned us!” Be blessed – 1,000 fold… Deut. 1:11

Dear Patricia and Mary,
we heard about Frank and we are very sad.
We did not have the joy to meet him in person, but we can say that we have known him anyway. When she was born I was only a 7 year old girl, but I remember very well how proud I was of that beautiful little cousin who lived so far away. I was very proud that he was American, Cheyenne and (a little bit) Italian and my friends envied me a little. My memories of him are linked to two photographs that arrived by post in two of your letters. The first portrayed a beautiful newborn on a pachwork blanket, the second was a child a child fishing in a river. So, our idea of him was that of a beautiful, quiet, nature-loving boy. When we read his memoir, we realized that we were not wrong: it was so. We know how difficult this moment is, but we think that he would like you to be happy. Be strong, we loves you.
