Franklin Jerry Horacek — known simply as “Frank” to all who knew him — passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, at the age of 67 in Colstrip, Montana. Born on March 12, 1958, in La Crosse, Kansas, he was the son of June Junior “Mickey” Horacek and Marilyn Yvonne Million.
He was known as a hard‑working and dedicated man of many trades, whose career spanned many fields. Throughout his life, he specialized in industrial and mechanical work, excelling as an expert in the oil and gas industry. He consulted and inspected on pipeline projects across the United States, leaving his mark on countless projects, including major pipelines that spanned multiple states. His experience also extended into the chemical industry, construction, and heavy machinery. Over the years, he worked in forestry, rock quarries, road construction, and many other areas of infrastructure and development.
Beyond his work, Frank loved to fish and hunt, keeping his freezers full of meat. He could always seem to catch fish even when others were not. He also was passionate about mechanics and automobile work– tinkering and improving them. There was not much he couldn’t do as a welder, a plumber, a home improver, and an innovator. He brought passion and dedication to the places he directed his attention.
Those close to Frank will always remember his deep belly laughs and joking nature. He could draw you in with his vivid stories. He was an entertainer. He didn’t seem to know a stranger– with a giving nature that extended to others in need. He was resilient, overcoming many challenges through life, finding ways to thrive in seemingly impossible situations. As his family, we will remember him for his adventurous nature, his many teachable moments, for always cheering us on and believing in us, and for the unique nicknames he lovingly gave each of us. Frank also formed many lasting relationships throughout his life and “adopted” countless children and grandchildren into his heart, extending his love and encouragement to all who became part of his circle. His life experiences and personality will be remembered by those who survive him; his wife, Cindy Horacek; his children, Casey, Nicole, Kayla, and Cory; and 14 grandchildren who live in Kansas, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Texas. Not only was he an amazing father, but he was a best friend.
We will deeply miss him and forever carry his love, laughter, and spirit in our hearts.
