Frank Rowland, 86, of Ashland passed away April 29, 2011 at Powder River Manor in Broadus.
Honhe Evahe Popoetse Wolf Bounces Back was born May 6, 1924 in Longdale, Oklahoma, a son of George Rowland and Lena Little Man. He grew up in the Rosebud creek area. He attended Busby boarding school until the young age of 16 he began working on the railroad.
He enjoyed traveling and working various jobs in the Northwestern areas in the U.S. One of his special places was Seattle Washington. He loved meeting new and different people and also lived in Alaska. When returning home the adults and children alike were always glad to see him and hear of his latest adventures and storytelling.
He was an excellent Gardner with a green thumb. He always had his own personal garden and always maintained a very large garden at the Shoulderblade Complex. Frank was always the caretaker for many children on the reservation. He always had a big heart for children and looked out and took care of them.
Frank will always be remembered for his large hands, big heart and great storytelling. He was known as a Survivor. In 1989 one of Franks great accomplishments, at the age of 65, was the Sobriety walk/run from Ashland, Montana. Frank was the second one to arrive and first walker to complete the 22 miles.He was preceded in death by his son and daughter from Poplar, Montana and his bird Fred. He is survived by his Beloved dog Simone.The family would like to express a special thanks to the Heritage Living Center in Ashland, MT.
Wake will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Heritage Center in Ashland, MT. Funeral Mass will be hold on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Lame Deer, MT.
