Former Wolf Point resident Frank G. Shumway, 88, died at the Friendship Villa Nursing Home in Miles City on October 14, 2003.
Frank was born on April Fools Day, April 1, 1915 to the parents of Frank E. Shumway and Anna G. Breun-Shumway in Taylor, North Dakota. In 1916 the family moved to a homestead northwest of Wolf Point, Montana. Here his parents built a sod house in which they lived for two years.Growing up Frank worked for farmers/ranchers in the area, digging coal in local mines, and he also worked at Cole near Saco during the construction of the Fort Peck Dam.In the thirties he met Vera E Marmon and they where married on July 23, 1938. They continued working for local farmers/ranchers until. Their oldest son, Gary started school. The family moved to Wolf Point where Frank worked for Rathert-Schreiber Ford for thirty-eight years as a mechanic.Frank enjoyed fishing for trout on Wolf Creek near the homestead, hunting, going to rodeos, and dancing.
Frank is survived by his brothers, Leroy Shumway of San Diego, California; Herman Shumway, Jack Shumway, and Robert Sullivan all of Wolf Point MT; sons, Ronie of Glasgow, MT, Craig of Reno, Nevada, Zane of Terry, MT; and a daughter Renee Waite of Bozeman, MT; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Vera; son Gary; sisters, Edith Shumway, Isabelle Anderson, Virginia Hartman; brothers George Shumway, Robert Shumway, and Lloyd Shumway.
There will be a visitation on Friday, October 17, 2003 until 8:00pm at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2003 at1:00pm at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point MT. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Wolf Point, followed by a reception at the Sherman Inn. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
