GarrySchye, age 85, of Miles City passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2005 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.
How can you summarize the life of a man as special as Garry Schye? He was everything to the people in his life. He was a wonderful, loving husband, a caring father, a compassionate, patient son and the best friend anyone could have. He took incredible pride in his whole family and never missed an opportunity to laugh out loud.
Garry loved his wife Reva. She was the light of his life and together they embraced all of life's joys and hardships for over 60 years. Garry loved his sons Craig and Carter, and he loved the family he grew up in. Garry was very proud that he came from "Good People." But most of all, he loved to laugh. He had a real talent to keep things in perspective, to keep things light. Garry maintained a youthful exuberance, while wearing his hat a little crooked and flashing his boyish grin, that shone through when he walked into a room served as a subtle reminder we should learn to laugh at ourselves and never take things too seriously.
Garry Schye had a passion for life and people. He made the most out of every day, never held a grudge, said what he felt and allowed those he loved to do the same. He was kind and gentle and he had an unbridled passion for life and getting all he could out of it. He made life special and fun. He had a great sense of humor. He could roar in laughter over the same joke over and over. He was a great storyteller. In a group Garry loved to just sit and visit, he was "a man who liked to talk to people who liked to talk." He could tell stories with such enthusiasm and energy. He absolutely saw the humor in everything, even when he would be out at some place where you are supposed to be serious, and something would strike him as funny. He would not be able to control his laughter and when Garry would laugh, everyone laughed. Garry loved words, loved the ideas they could convey, the laughter they could evoke, the enthusiasm they could elicit. His quest for knowledge came from his love of literacy. Garry never encountered a book, magazine or newspaper that he didn't read.
Garry was born in Viroqua, Wisconsin, the son of Theodore and Selina (Morrison) Schye on October 10, 1920. He was the youngest of three brothers. Garry grew up with his two brothers Jack and Elmer at the family farm in Ismay, Montana. On November 20, 1945, Garry married the love of his life,Reva Rost. Together they raised two sons, Craig and Carter. Garry and Reva recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their family and friends. During the course of his life, Garry worked at numerous jobs including road construction, implement dealers, insulation business, masonry and even after retirement at 80 years old, he was still haying for Jim Lewis. Garry is survived by his wife Reva, his son Carter, and a very dear to his heart relative Dennis Mullen as well as numerous relatives and friends and a very special neighbor, Lori Doeden.
Garry was preceeded in death by his parents, his son Craig, and his two brothers, Jack and Elmer.
Goodbye Garry...you truly touched our hearts, but we're glad for the time you spent with us. We were truly blessed to have you in our lives. We will forever be richer for what you have taught us with your words, your sense of integrity, keen intelligence, human decency, kindness, generosity and wisdom and look forward to seeing you again one day but until then, you will live on in our hearts... laughing, gentle, loving and wise. We are so fortunate to have had such a wonderful man in our lives. We will go forward and continue to make you proud and to honor your life.
