Gary Donald Draine was born October 17, 1955 and passed away at the age of 60 on March 16, 2016.
He was the third son born of Bernice (Bunny) and Harold Draine, Sr. in Belle Fourche, SD.
Gary was better known to everyone as Butch, a name he acquired from his dad when he was born. Older brother Harold asked what his new little brother’s name was when he was told he had a brother and Harold just said, “Butch”…and it stuck.
He attended school at Hammond for his elementary education. He entered Powder River District High School for his junior high and high school years in Broadus, MT and graduated in 1973. Following graduation, he attended college at Eastern College in Billings. When he was younger, he worked in the summer for Vardell’s combining crews and at the Truck Stop for Joe McDowell. Butch preferred the city lifestyle rather than the ranch and stayed in the Billings area, but he loved coming back to the ranch for holidays and visits with the family. While in the Billings area, he worked for Barry O’Leary as a truck driver and the Shepherd school district in maintenance.
Butch was married to Terry Brandon in about 1982 and they later divorced. He had a son, Corie Allen, with his second wife, Pam Nelson in December 1991.
Butch had a love for animals. Three of his favorites were a Spider monkey “Peanut”, a white cockatiel and a dog named Tyler.
One thing to be noted about Butch was his love of people, meeting them and visiting with them and learning new things. He was known for his sense of humor, storytelling and friendliness. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and travelling. One trip that was a highlight to him was a trip to Branson, MO with his parents and Pam. He took classes in photography, Auctioneering and square dance calling. One of his favorite songs to call was to the tune of “Seminole Wind”…and he was good at it.
Although Gary had many issues that plagued him in his recent years, he always had a good heart and soul. Rest in Peace.
Gary leaves behind, two brothers: Harold, Jr. (Sacha) Draine of Hammond, MT; Larry (Dawn) of Boyes, MT; his son, Corie of Billings, MT; one niece (Stacie Ostendorf) and three nephews (Colt Draine, Tim Draine and James Draine), three great nieces and three great nephews; and long-time special friend, Dixie Green of Billings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold, Sr. and Bernice (Bunny) Draine.
Funeral services will be held at Stevenson and Sons funeral home in Broadus, MT on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 3 p.m. with burial at Valley View Cemetery in Broadus, MT following the service.
Memorials may be sent to RiverStone Health Clinic in Billings at RiverStone Health Foundation, PO Box 1562, Billings, MT 59103 or www.riverstonehealth.org for online giving; or to a charity of your choice, if desired.

Gary, or Brown Eyes as you liked me to call you. We wrote our story but it wasn’t supposed to end this way. You had a gift of song and humor welded within your heart. Remember when you would call me and sing, “Kiss an angel good morning?” Well, I know kiss my angel good night and sweet rest. We learned a song in church one day and it left an imprint in your soul as you would sing it over and over. Now I sing it to you: “I want to run on greener pastures, I want to dance on higher hills, I want to drink from sweeter waters in the misty morning chill, and my soul is getting restless for the place where I belong, I can’t wait to join the angels and sing my heaven song.” May you be there now waiting for me.
With all my love to you and your family
Dixie Lee

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. My folks were Bob & Ida Seeve from Savage and your Mom & Dad were good friends, even if they lived miles apart. We always heard about Jr. Butch and Larry. I was going to the National School of Business in Rapid City and was home sick so your folks told me to come and visit for the weekend. Your folks and you 3 boys made me feel so welcome. It helped to get ride of that homesick feeling. About that same time Irene Rice and some of her girls were in the area and we drove over to see you and your Mom and Dad. Had such a good visit. I’ve lost track of you guys since your Mom and Dad are gone. Your Mom always kept my parents posted about you guys. I am so sorry for the loss of Butch. He was an awesome kid when I visited in the mid 60’s. I have fond memories.
