In Memory Of

Gary F. Geiger, age 65 of Miles City

May 31, 1948 – November 8, 2013

Gary F. Geiger, age 65 of Miles City, MT, passed away unexpectedly of a brain aneurism Friday, November 8, 2013 at Billings Clinic Hospital in Billings, MT.

Gary was born on May 31, 1948 in Glendive, MT, the only child of Frank and Jean Geiger.  He attended school in Glendive, graduating from Dawson County High School in 1966.  Like his father before him, Gary enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April of 1967.  He attended basic training in San Diego, CA.  Gary served on the U.S.S. Sperry until his honorable discharge on August 29, 1969.  Gary was always willing to share the many stories of his naval adventures.  Upon his discharge Gary returned to his hometown of Glendive, MT to meet the love of his life, Barbara Almanza.  After a brief courtship they were united in marriage on May 9, 1970.  Their son Frankie was born November 24, 1970 and daughter Amy was born February 1, 1972.  Gary worked a variety of jobs but mainly worked maintenance in the school system in several districts.  The last 9 years spent working at MCC in Miles City.  This was the job that Gary enjoyed the most as he had developed several close friendships at MCC, especially Ross Lawrence and Bruce Silba.

One of Gary’s greatest pleasures was his 6 grandchildren.  Kayla Kutzler Hopfauf age 23, Amber Geiger Kent age 19, Wyatt LaPierre age 13, Derek Geiger age 12, Weston La Pierre age 11, Katelyn Spang  age 3.  He also had 3 great grandchildren, Bailee Stevenson age 4, Becca Christman age 3, Trey Kent age 1.  Outside of his family and friends, Gary also enjoyed music; especially his “oldies”, watching his Yankees play, riding his Harley, target shooting and having a cold beer.

He was preceded in death by his father Frank Geiger Jr., and his close cousins Ron and Ken Lovaas.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Geiger of Miles City, his son Frankie of Spokane, WA and daughter Amy also of Miles City and mother Jean of Glendive, MT.

He will be remembered and greatly missed.

Visitation will take place Tuesday November 12, 2013 from 4:00p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home.  Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 in the chapel of Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home, with Caroline Fleming officiating.  Interment will follow at Eastern Montana Veterans Cemetery with military honors.  Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Miles City are entrusted with arrangements.  Condolences to the family may be sent to them by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com.

  13. J Johnson says

    November 12, 2013 at 3:14 pm

My sincere condolences to the family of Gary F. Geiger – May you find comfort in your loving memories, great pictures and in recalling the many talents of Mr. Geiger. God did not purpose that mankind suffer and die and has promised that a time will come when no one will say “I am sick” (Isaiah 33:24). The Bible promises a resurrection of dear family members and friends that we have lost (John 5:28, 29). The Paradise that was originally promised for the earth in the Garden of Eden will be fulfilled causing God’s “will being done as in Heaven also upon Earth” (Matt 6:9, 10). I hope you are comforted by Bible promises of a hopeful future (John 17:3).

    November 30, 2013 at 12:48 pm

I was saddened to hear of the passing of my childhood friend, Gary Geiger. My deepest condolences go out to Gary’s family. Gary and I shared many interests including the NY Yankees and music. I remember fondly the time that Gary and I got up in front of our seventh grade class and sang “North to Alaska”. It was Gary’s idea and it went over well.

Add your thoughts and memories. Upon approval they will be added.
