Gary Field, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community member, passed away surrounded by his loved ones. Born in 1939, Gary graduated with the Class of 1957 and began his journey with a basketball scholarship at Custer County Junior College, now known as Miles Community College. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Regular Navy as a radioman for four years before pursuing his passion for culinary arts.
Gary was a talented chef and restaurateur, managing the Candlelight Inn in Entiat, WA. Known for his gourmet creations, he delighted many with dishes like Filet of Sole, Seafood Wellington, Coquilles St. Jacques, and Steak Au Poivre.
Gary was also a dedicated public servant, spending eighteen years at the Pine Hills Youth Correctional Facility as a Food Service Supervisor, where he left an incredible mark on the lives of many.
Above all, Gary cherished his family. He was a proud father to his children – two daughters and one son – and a doting grandfather to eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
His faith and community were also integral to his life. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and found joy in witnessing his lifelong friend, Fr. Frank Kelly, enter the priesthood. He also treasured reunions with his high school classmates, including the memorable “All 50s Class Reunion” in 2001.
Gary’s legacy is one of love, service, and excellence, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

I have decades of memories of Gary being shared with my family. Such warm and wonderful memories. He was a part of the fabric of our lives. Endless yakking, meals, laughs. Larry loved looking forward to the annual hunting trip with Gary out to Jurica ranch. Countless hours spent at the cabin to enjoy Montana skies, sun, and water. Gary contributed so much work there, and always with a big smile on his face. We were very grateful for all his work and good company. Our lives were blessed with him being in it. I wish peace of mind and clarity to his family. Love you Gary, you will not be forgotten.
