Graveside Service: Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Miles City with full military honors provided by VFW Post #1579.
Gene Scotty McRae, age 74, of Miles City passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Billings Clinic in Billings.
Scotty was born in Alexander, North Dakota on December 9, 1935, the son of Glenn Scott and Ellen Amanda (Hayward) McRae. He grew up and attended schools in Haydraw, North Dakota. He entered the United States Navy in which he served four years on the USS Boyd as a welder and pipefitter. Following his honorable discharge, he moved to Sidney, Montana where he worked on the family ranch and later as a roughneck in the Sidney area. Scotty married Lois Balducke on November 21, 1959. He worked for 12 years at L.P. Andersons in Miles City. He later worked on the Alaskan Pipeline for two years starting his own trucking business until his retirement.
After retirement, Scotty drove the bus for the Miles Community College Pioneer Baseball team for many years. He truly enjoyed driving them to and from games and tournaments while getting to know all of the kids. He loved to tinker in his shop and also restoring cars. He also enjoyed working in his yard and most of all he was always up for a good game of cribbage.
Scotty is survived by a son, Jeff McRae of Manhattan, MT; two daughters: Winona (Aaron) Ramage of Billings, MT and Becky (Mitch) Hillier of Billings, MT; five grandchildren: Ryan, Kim and Casey Ramage and Garret and McKenna Hillier; his siblings: Marylin (Johnny) Lingle of Shepherd, MT; Frank (Barb) McRae of Jefferson, UT; Gordon (Teri) McRae of Bakersfield, CA, Donna (Bill) Lewis of Sidney, MT; and numerous niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ellen and Glenn McRae, a brother Gerald McRae and a sister Helen Smith.
Scottys family would like to extend their appreciation to the Billings Clinic ICU Staff & Dr. Konstantakos and Dr. Kriner for the wonderful care they gave Scotty.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City with family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Miles City with full military honors provided by VFW Post #1579.
