On January 25, 2011, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away. George Herbert Ames was born in New Milford, PA to Bernard and Hazel Ames. While growing up, George enlisted in the US Army. During this time, George saw combat in the Korean War, receiving a purple heart. After returning from Korea, George married Dolores Orzel and they had four children; Bernard (Stub), Patti (Don) Stewart of Big Timber, MT Danny (Betty) of Park City, MT and Michael of Colstrip. After serving his country, George worked different jobs eventually deciding that truck driving would be the way to go. He did this for approximately 25 years. In 1969, he moved to Big Timber, MT. Dolores and the four kids followed later. George continued driving truck until 1978 when he then tried his hand at law enforcement. He did this for 20 years retiring in 1998. In 2002, Georges wife of 50 years, Dolores, passed away. After this he went from kid to kid with Mike finally saying he would take him in Colstrip. While in Colstrip he met Clara Shinkle. They were married in 2004. Claras family then got to experience his humor and love. George loved hunting, fishing and was a true sports addict. He was also known to have a little bit of fun from time to time and he would be known to tease people every once in a while.
George was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Doris and Jean, his son Stub, his grandsons Drew and Georgie. He is survived by his wife Clara, children Patti, Danny and Mike, stepchildren John, Glenn, Linda, Debbie and Michelle, 24 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.
George had a deep respect for the military service and due to this the family requests donation be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Dad you done well and you left us all better people.
