George Sonny Burman, age 78, of Wibaux, Montana passed away on Monday, August 31, 2009 at the Glendive Medical Center in Glendive.

Sonny was born at the family home near Wibaux, Montana on October 14, 1930, the son of Emma (Sandberg) and George Burman Sr. He attended country grade school north of Wibaux. Following his schooling, he worked for area ranchers and married Mert Casey in Glendive, Montana on June 14, 1952. He enlisted in the United States Army and returned to the Glendive/Wibaux area upon his honorable discharge. The couple worked for area ranchers and made their home in Wibaux. They later divorced. He also made a living working in the oilfields for fourteen years before returning to doing what he loved most, doing ranch work. He did this until he retired. Sonny loved horses and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Sonny is survived by three daughters: Kathy (Tom) Strub of Miles City, MT; Jacki Thomas of Belfield, ND; and Donna Connell of South Heart, ND; two sons: Brad (Roxanne) Burman of Vernal, UT; and Rod (Mandy) Burman of Dickinson, ND; two sisters: June Radke of Wibaux, MT and Rose Janis of Tucson, AZ; and a brother, Jack Burman of Glendive, MT; twelve grandchildren: Justin Strub, Tate Strub, Casey Strub, Lori Hayworth, Lance Thomas, Laci Thomas, Travis Connell, Leslea Connell, Shawnna Wilcox, Shane Burman, Shawn Burman and Nicona Burman; eleven great grandchildren: Molly Strub, Kyleigh Strub, Trace Strub, Kaden Strub, Gavin Strub, Ryder Strub, Jordan Hayworth, Brekin Wade, Dace Wilcox, Jacelynn Wilcox and Tristan Burman and several nephews and nieces and his best friend, his dog Max. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Dean; his sisters: Hazel, Mae, Peg, Onie and Shirley; and his brothers: Andy, Bob & Bill.

Visitation will begin on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at the Wibaux Community Center in Wibaux followed by a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wibaux Community Center in Wibaux. Interment will follow in the Wibaux County Cemetery in Wibaux.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
