George Pee Wee DeCambra, age 83, of Miles City passed on to the big race track in the sky on September 21, 2008.
Pee Wee was born in Maui, HI to Manuel and Rosie (Frietas) Cambra, Jr. on February 23, 1925. He entered the United States Army on March 8, 1945 from Oahu, Hawaii and was honorably discharged on March 27, 1946.
Pee Wee raced horses in Hawaii where he was named the Tommy Kaneshiro Memorial Outstanding Jockey in 1948 at the Kailua Race Track in Kailua, Hawaii.In March of 1948, Pee Wee went to Pleasanton, California to continue his racing career and raced up and down the California Coast. At that time he met Patricia Hartz and after a short courtship they were married. They made their home in the Pleasanton Valley area and raised six children; Roseanne, Donald, David, Theresa, George and Christine. Pee Wee retired from the racing field in 1990. Pee Wee was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchild.
Pee Wee is survived by his wife Patricia of 59 years, his siblings; Robert, Herbert, Donald, Velma and Virginia, His children Roseanne Newby, Donald DeCambra, David (Debra) DeCambra, Theresa DeCambra, George (Nancy Brewer) DeCambra, Chrissy (Jim) Eustler. He is also survived by grandchildren; SSG Jeff (Shawna) Newby, Retired SSG Richard (Kirsten) Newby, Candy (Tim Dempsey) Newby, Angela Soto, Sierra Wilson, Skylar Wilson, James Pierce, Sabrina Pierce and Gary, Kassie and great-grandchild Carrie Jo Newby.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
