George Elk Shoulder, Jr., 65 of Birney, MT, was called home by the creator, February 23rd 2015. Ešeevȧhtamehnėstse “Day Walker” was born February 18, 1950 to George Elk Shoulder Sr. and Eva Lamebear.
George, Jr. married the love of his life, Rebecca Big Fire, on February 14, 1980 and they made their home on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation. He worked as a Police Officer for 15 years, a Game Warden, a CHR worker for the Diabetes Program, at St. Labre as a House Parent, and then at Northern Cheyenne Tribal Schools as a teacher and paraprofessional, a mentor for the students. He loved his traditional beliefs. George was a Chief Headsman for the Dog Soldier Society. He also loved horses and breaking them. He loved his children and grandchildren very much.
George was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Imogene.
His survivors include his companion, Rebecca; his sons: Keith (LaVern), Shawn (Jody), Nathaniel, George III (Delray), Stoney, Wacey, and Cree Elk Shoulder; his daughters: Priscilla Little Bear, Shawna (Nathan), and Emily (Mike) Ponyah; his brothers: Clifford Big Head, Sr., Leonard (Julie), Mark (Ilo), Andy (Ella), and Eugene Elk Shoulder, and Roger and Ernesto Little Mouth; 58 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; special granddaughter Isabel Elk Shoulder; special uncle Clifton Sooktis; special aunt Nancy Fighting Bear; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved and treated as his own.
A family wake took place on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at his home in the Muddy Cluster area of Lame Deer. A traditional Wake will take place at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the Birney Hall in Birney, MT. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Birney Hall. Graveside Services will follow at the Birney Cemetery.
