George Holland

Funeral Service: Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home

Interment: will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery with full military honors

George L. Holland, age 93 of Miles City, Montana, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at the Cottonwood Care Home in Miles City.

George was born on February 14, 1911 in Blanchard, OK the son of George L. and Lovilla (McKinnon) Holland. He moved with the family in 1918 to Jordan, Montana. He attended Eighth Point Country School and then worked on the family ranch and area ranches. On December 8, 1942 he joined the United States Army and served during World War II in Germany and France. After his honorable discharge on January 29, 1946 he retuned to Jordan and continued ranching. On March 25, 1952, George and Viola Lynn were united in marriage in Bentonville, Arkansas. The couple moved to Miles City where he worked for the Miles City Saddlery and for Fort Keogh. Later, George and his brother Carl purchased a farm at Rosebud, which they operated for eleven years. George and Viola then moved to Arkansas where they worked for a chicken hatchery and raised rabbits. In 1973, they retuned to Miles City and worked for Kings Janitorial Service. After his retirement, George remained busy, volunteering numerous hours at the VA Hospital in Miles City.

In his younger years, George was quit the cowboy and loved running horses. In his later years, he enjoyed puzzles, playing cards; especially solitaire, and hook latching. George is survived by his son, Lynn Holland and his wife Sandy of Miles City, MT. He was preceded in death by his wife Viola in 1995, five brothers; Ray, Carl, Claude, Eb, and Ernest, and by a sister Maude.

Should friends desire; memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or to the charity of one's choice.
