Funeral Service: Friday, April 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Allen Rowland Gymnasium in Lame Deer
Burial: will follow in the Kellum Family Cemetery with full military honors.
Sgt. George A. Kellum (Heovaehe- Yellow Hair) age 23 of Lame Deer, MT, passed away on April 4, 2009 at Ft. Benning, Georgia where he was currently stationed.
George was born September 16, 1985 the son of William Bruce Sr. and Georgiann (Littlehead) Kellum in Billings, MT. He was born the baby of their four children.George grew up in Lame Deer and attended school at St. Labre Catholic School in Ashland. George graduated from the Montana Youth Challenge Program and St. Labre Catholic School in 2004. Following graduating he entered the military on July 4, 2004 in Butte, Montana. He served with the United States Army, 11-B infantry, Baumholder, Germany from 2004 until 2007. He was deployed to Camp Hit, Iraq from May of 2005 to February of 2007. As a Sgt. E-5, he was currently stationed at Ft. Benning, GA. He was proud to be a U.S. Army Infantry soldier and took pride in all that surrounded his career. George met Misty D. Pipe in high school, nine years ago, and they kept in close contact the whole time he was deployed to Iraq and thats when their love started to blossom. They were united in marriage on July 3, 2007 in Billings, MT. Together they resided in Ft. Benning, GA. Their love for each other was shown in everything they did together. They were best friends and ultimate soul mates. Nothing but death could tear them apart.
He was an avid hunter and spent every moment he had on leave home hunting with his Dad and big brother. He was a kind hearted, nurturing, romantic, compassionate, funny and very brave man. He held all his family and friends very close in his heart and spoke of memories with them often. George had a very close bond with his Mom and Dad and he looked up to his big brother Sonny with the up most respect and admiration. He held his two older sisters Gizelle and Misty close in his heart. George grew up with his special niece Teal and special nephew August Whitedirt. George and August spent a lot of their childhood climbing trees and playing Army together.He loved football and was a huge Denver Broncos fan. He enjoyed playing football as a teen in high school and continued on into his Army career playing with his Unit. Georges trustee side kick was their dog Ruckus a German Shepard. He had him from a pup and he spent lots of time training him. They had a strong bond.
George was very proud to be Northern Cheyenne and a member of the Bow String Society, which he had the highest respect when it came to his tradition. He was a member of the St. Labre Drum Group. When George was 16 years old he traveled with the St. Labre Dance troop to Germany and Switzerland. He was a Northern Cheyenne traditional dancer and a member of Native Reign and ran for the Fort Robinson Break Out Memorial run. He was Mr. Fix It and enjoyed working on his old truck. He was well known for Chefing Up. He was THE BEST COOK!
He was preceded in death by his grandfather George Littlehead Sr., father-in-law, James Pipe, godmother Annie Burns, grandmother Ruby C. Dillon and grandfather Anthony Morro.George is survived by his wife Misty Kellum of Ft. Benning, GA, his parents Bruce and Georiann Kellum of Lame Deer, MT, his brothers William Sonny Bruce Kellum of Lame Deer, MT and sisters; Gizelle (Russell) Kellum of Hardin, MT and Misty R. Kellum of Lame Deer, MT, mother-in-law Bonnie Pipe of Lame Deer, MT, his special brothers; Quanah Magpie, Kayo (Desi) Magpie, Fernando (Meryem) Martinez, Aaron Laigaie, Daniel Falu, Pete Borch, Brandon Small, Anthony RunningWolf, his special sisters; Tanita KillsKnight, Jennifer Pipe and Rebecca Ysabal, his special mentors; Winfield Russell, Phillip Whiteman Jr., Ernie and Maryann Robinson, 22 nieces and nephews and 6 great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by extended families; WalksLast, Ree, Yellow Mule, BlackWolf, Kings, Littlebird, Foote, Shoulderblade, Rodriquez, Seminole, WhitemanRunsHim, LaForge, Dillion, LittleNest, SunGoesSlow, Kellum, Littlehood, Woodenlegs, Small, Pipe, Livingston, Red Wolf, Big Shoulder and Red Elks.

It was an honor going to OSUT with Kellum, and a distinct pleasure hanging out with him in Baumholder. I only recently learned of his passing, and am saddened by the course of events.

George was such a good friend. I miss him a lot. I love to remember the great times we had hunting, playing sports, rounding up cows, hanging out at pow wows, and cracking jokes.

George I knew you from Challenge The Wolf Pack Class 10 …. You helped motivate me and we joined the army in butte with sgt schanzzenbagh of the 82nd airborne rangers…. You were my best friend in there …. I had no idea you passed man …. Sorry to see this we lost touch after the program …. I’m sorry to your family and your service brothers for the loss…. You were a good man
