George Fox, Taa’evenestoohe “Night Crier”, named after Clarence Tallwhiteman was taken home to the creator Sunday morning, February 11th, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by his wife and children. Dad was born on February 22nd, 1954 on the banks of the Tongue River to Winona Tangled Yellow Hair- Fox and Joe Fox Sr. Dad fought a nine month battle with Glioblastoma (brain cancer). He was diagnosed and had surgery in May 2017. His incredible perseverance and courage showed as he fought for life.
Dad lived a very accomplished life as a loving grandpa, dad, uncle and brother, but mostly as a loving husband of 42 years. Dad started his working career as M.I.F.F Squad and Crew boss for the Northern Cheyenne and Ashland Forestry Dept. He later became employed at St. Labre Cafeteria and print shop. His last job, driving the school bus for the St. Labre School children was the job he enjoyed the most and missed after his brain surgery.
Dad will forever be remembered for his great athletic ability. He was a great pitcher for the Tongue River Softball team, one of the few pitchers to pitch a curve ball in slow pitch softball. People tell stories of the great running back he was, one particular story is that he carried 6 guys on his back and still ran it in for a touchdown, and they talk of his quickness on the field.
Dad was also a well-known artist, making deer antler earrings and painting numerous logos for the St. Labre organizations including the Brave head logo used on apparel and the gym floor as well as the church logo and the mural on the middle school gym wall.
Dad loved to watch his children and grandchildren participate in sports. But what he loved the most was watching his grandchildren in the pow-wow circle, dancing and singing. Dad was very proud of his only granddaughter for graduating from Valley Forge Military Academy and for currently attending college in Washington D.C. His oldest grandson is about to graduate high school in May and go to college.
Dad was a very compassionate, humble man with a heart of gold. Whenever his help was needed, he did his best to be there and help however he could. There are countless memories that we can share but it would be a book.
Dad is preceded in death by his parents; Joe Fox Sr. and Winona Tangled Yellow Hair- Fox, Eddie Foote Sr, Regina Tallwhiteman- Foote; brothers Edward Fox, Arnold White Antelope, Matthew and David Paul Fox and his niece Selma White Antelope.
Dad is survived by his wife, Verlene; children; Jennifer, Velinda (Jerry), Desiree and Sidney; brothers Joe (Lucinda), James, Richard, Marvin, Wayne (Rosanne) Headswift; sisters Charlene Yellow Fox, Adeline Fox, Rebecca Brady, Delores Morgan, Joann (Yellow Eyes) Puckett, Jeannete (Yellow Eyes) Stettler, Delores (Daniel) Fisher, Clara Harris, Theda Foote, and Annie (Jim) Bement; aunt, Susie Cain; nephew, David (Tommee Joe) Fox; nieces, Luanna Fox and Ivene (Terry) Briggs; grandchildren: Devin, Valor, Chitat, Jerome, Wanbli, Cody, Jocinda, and adopted grandson Bryan Aviles-Ortiz.

No words can soften the loss of a loved one. Besides having his son, granddaughter and grandson as students, I was privileged to have had George in my classroom for a Dull Knife course several years ago. I am honored to know the Fox family, and I will keep you all in my prayers that your hearts be comforted knowing that he is with his Creator and watching over us all.
God Bless and comfort you all!
