George died at home in Gillette on Friday, October 31, 2003, at 11:47 P.M. with his wife and three daughters by his side after a long battle with complications from diabetes and kidney failure.
George Edward Rhoades was born November 2, 1945, the son of Sally (Beck) Rhoades and Robert E. Rhoades in Wheatland, Wyoming. The family moved to Newcastle, Wyoming in 1947, where George was raised and educated. He graduated from Newcastle High School in 1963. George attended the University of Wyoming receiving a B.A. in Business Administration in 1967.
On December 26, 1965, George married his high school sweetheart, Margo Cummings, in Laramie, Wyoming. After George graduated from the university, they moved to Newcastle, where George served as Director of Operations and Corporate Secretary for Deckers Food Center, Inc.
The family moved to Gillette in 1974, where George continued to work for Deckers until 1990. He was also employed by Murphy Drug, Inc., and OPRO, Inc., (Holiday Inn, Towers West Lodge, and High Plains Hotel). In 1993, George became Comptroller at Cam-Plex where he was employed until his death.
George was active in his community. He served on the Campbell County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors (1977-80); President of the Chamber (1979-80); St. Matthews Finance Committee (1985-88); President (1988); Member of the Gillette Rotary Club (1974-91); and Rotary Treasurer (1986-91).
George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son. Prior to Georges illness he enjoyed hunting with his dad and brothers, vacationing with his family, and golfing with his wife and father. George loved his work, especially the last 10 years at Cam-Plex.
George is survived by his wife, Margo; three daughters: Cheryl Barton and husband, Dan of Gillette, Tracy Suhr and husband, Mike of Casper, Chrissy Kaplan, and husband, Sean of Gillette; and seven grandchildren that were the light of his life. He is also survived by his Mother, Sally Rhoades of Gillette; two brothers and one sister: Bob Rhoades,Wally Rhoades, and Julie Chick, all of Gillette, Wyoming.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Robert Rhoades in 1999.
Memorial services for George Edward Rhoades, age 57, of Gillette, Wyoming will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at the Saint Matthews Catholic Church in Gillette, Wyoming with Father Thomas Kadera officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Stevenson Funeral Home of Gillette is entrusted with the arrangements.
A memorial has been established to Hospice of Campbell County Memorial Hospital so that others can be cared for by this loving, compassionate organization.
