Gloria Jean Blum passed away at University Hospital in Salt Lake City on June 15, 2018 after suffering a stroke at her home in Miles City. She passed away peacefully with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. She was 89. (Just one day short of her 90th birthday.)
Gloria was born on June 16, 1928 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Henry and Catherine (Tanzer) Geissler. She grew up in Chippewa Falls and graduated from McDonell High School in 1946. Gloria married the love of her life, Norman Blum, on October 25, 1947 at St. Charles Church. They shared their home by Lake Wissota in Chippewa Falls for 63 years before Norman passed away in May of 2011. To this union two children were born, James and Susan.
Gloria worked at Northern Center for 28 years in the records office and Word Processing Center. She genuinely enjoyed her job and working in general, so it took her a long time to finally retire.
In 2015, Gloria made the decision to move to Miles City to live with her daughter. It was very hard for her to leave her family and home in Chippewa, but she also knew the move would give her the chance to spend more time with her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to bake cookies for everyone and kept the cookie jar well stocked for when someone stopped by. Gloria was an avid reader and was excited when Danielle Steel came out with a new novel, and she dearly loved writing and getting letters form her good friend Edna, and her grand nieces Annabelle and Evie. During her time in Montana, Gloria also enjoyed playing Bunco with the ladies, and helping to hostess the Club Cuisine group when it was at her daughter’s house. She was generous, caring and thoughtful woman. Gloria will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Gloria is survived by her daughter, Susan (Blum) Nielson of Miles City; granddaughters Jamie Nielson and Carrie Scanlan both of Miles City; seven great-grandchildren Kyle, Braden, Faith, Kaleb, Talan, Addison and Elijah and one great-great grandchild Elena. She is also survived by her sisters Judy (David) Bowe of Chippewa Falls, Betty Lou (Lowell) Glodosky of Hayward, WI, brother Henry (Dorothy) Geissler of Chippewa Falls, her special nieces and nephews, cousins, and sister-in-in-law, Hermanilda Turany all of Chippewa Falls. She is also survived by her dog Gracie, who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman in 2011, son James in 1969, her parents Henry and Catherine Geissler, her sister Corrine Loew, brothers-in-law Robert Loew, David Bowe, Herman Turany, Albert Zwiefelhofer, Ralph Tichey, sisters-in-law Hilda Zwiefelhofer and Bernadette Tichey and her in-laws John and Caroline Blum.
It was Gloria’s wish that she be cremated and be brought back to Chippewa Falls for a private family service at a later date. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com.

We got to know your mother after her father passed away as we also attended Holy Ghost Church. We welcomed your mother to our group that would regularly go out for breakfast after 8 am church. What a lovely lady! We truly enjoyed her company and were glad she joined us. I’m sure it was hard for her to leave Chippewa Falls, but she talked often of her family and we could see how much love she had for her family. Thoughts and prayers to Gloria’s family.

What a wonderful lady. I worked with your mother at NWC for several years and got to know both her and your father quite well. Such a lovely couple. She always looked forward to your visits back home here in Chippewa Falls. You have my deepest sympathy. Gloria will be back with Norm and smiling and laughing like she always did. Prayers to all of you.

Gloria was a beautiful lady, inside and out. My heartfelt condolences to Sue and her family. Sue and I were friends growing up when our family would come to visit in Chippewa Falls and Gloria was always so kind to me. Her laugh was fantastic and she always made you feel welcome. I will look for her star in the heavens tonight which will shine brighter than all of the others.

I knew Gloria through working with her in the transcription department at Northern Center around 1990-92. She loved reading books and telling stories about Norm, their fishing trips, and her dog, Maggie. Gloria spoke often of trips to Montana to see family. She talked about walking with her neighbors in all kinds of weather. Gloria was a kind and gentle person. So sorry to hear of her passing. May you find peace in having spent these last years with her close to her family.
