Gregory A. Mitchell passed away on August 25, 2019 at the age of 68.
Greg was born March 8, 1951, in Miles City, Montana, the son of Richard G. Mitchell and Margaret Gilbert Mitchell. He had a very active childhood and was a good student. He attended local schools, graduating from Custer County High School in 1969. He enrolled at University of Montana, and after his second year at college, he was afflicted with schizophrenia. He returned to Miles City to work for W. A. Mitchell Agency/Security Abstract & Title Co.
His parents took him to Topeka, Kansas where he was treated for many years at the Menninger Clinic. He then returned to Miles City where he enjoyed volunteering at the VA. He was a member of the Eagles, Masons and sons of Norway. Greg loved his books and his Christian faith. Greg wanted much more out of life and he prayed and searched for answers to his affliction. When the voices did not get in his way, Greg was a gentle, thoughtful, sweet man and was very generous in giving to charities and causes. Greg’s faith helped him in accepting his diagnoses of pancreatic cancer with a great deal of strength and dignity.
Greg was preceded in death by his grandparents and his brother, Jeff. He is survived by his parents of Green Valley, AZ; his brother Richard, Jr., (Nancy) of Miles City, nephew Eric Mitchell of Red Lodge; nieces AnneMarie Wallette (Neil) of Miles City, Ashlee Mitchell of Denver, CO and a great niece Chloe Wallette of Miles City. Greg is also survived by his aunt Marilyn Pratt (Charles) of Billings, his uncle Robert Gilbert (Susan) of Helena, and a number of cousins.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com.

To Greg’s family, so sorry for your loss. Greg will be really missed in our community. He was a very kind person. Ian and I enjoyed many Bible based conversations with him, and know he looked forward to the Bible’s promise that all sickness will be gone. May he rest in peace until the resurrection.
