Guadalupe Martin Cano, known to many as Lupe, was born on July 27, 1993, in Billings, Montana, to Claudine Killsnight Cano and Martin Cano. He passed away on January 8, 2026, in Globe, Arizona.
Lupe was a loving son, family member, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He had a gentle spirit, a kind heart, and a quiet way of showing his love and care for others. Those closest to him will remember his presence, his warmth, and the way he made people feel valued just by being himself.
Lupe was proud of his Northern Cheyenne roots and honored where he came from. He also embraced his Mexican heritage and deeply loved that side of his family, cherishing the time he spent with them and the strong bonds they shared.
Family meant everything to Lupe. He loved being surrounded by the people he cared about and found joy in simple moments spent together. His love, respect, and devotion to his family will always be remembered and carried on by those who knew him best.
Those who love Lupe find comfort in knowing that his mother, Claudine Killsnight Cano, was waiting for him with open arms.
Lupe is survived by his father Martin Cano, his stepmother Leanne Cano, his brothers Josiah, Xavier, Ramon, Miguel, Antonio, and Mateo, and his sisters Alicia, Chenona, and Elena.
He was a loving uncle to his niece Asa Cano-Farmer and his nephews Spirit Stump, Angel Vejez, Aaron Vejez, and Xander Vejez. Being an uncle brought him great joy, and every visit with them put a big smile on his face.
Lupe was proud to be the father of Luciano Cano. From the moment Luciano came into his life, Lupe embraced that role with love, devotion, and pride. He loved Luciano deeply and found purpose and happiness in being there for him, always wanting the best for him and holding him close in his heart.
Lupe joined wrestling in the second grade and played junior high football. When Lupe was 11 years old, he was involved in a tragic and unexpected accident that left him severely burned. He was sent to the Salt Lake Burn Center, where he spent three months in the ICU. Through remarkable strength, resilience, and determination, he recovered and returned home to Montana.
Lupe attended and graduated from Lame Deer High School. He took part in basketball and track and field, but football was his passion. He played football all four years of high school, made varsity for three of those years, and was proud to be a Lame Deer Morning Star. After graduation, Lupe was selected to play in All-Star games and traveled to Australia and Hawaii to play.
Lupe later attended Presentation College in Aberdeen, South Dakota, where he continued to play football and made lifelong friends. Lupe loved being around people, laughing, and experiencing new adventures.
Lupe enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He loved spending time with family and friends and especially cherished time with his nieces and nephews. His kindness, laughter, and presence will be deeply missed.
Wake services will be held Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Lame Deer Mennonite Church. The funeral for Lupe will be held Monday, January 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Allan Rowland Gymnasium at Lame Deer Elementary School.
The family would like to thank all of Lupe’s friends who supported him throughout his life. We also thank Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center in Globe, Arizona, for caring for Lupe in his final days. Thank you to Lamont Mortuary for taking care of Lupe and bringing him home, and to Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home for receiving him in Montana and helping with all arrangements.
We are thankful to everyone who supported our family during this difficult time. Lupe’s memory will live on through the love he shared, the relationships he built, and the lasting impact he had on the hearts of his family and friends. He will always be remembered with love, respect, and honor.

I don’t know how to exist in a world where you aren’t beside me. Every day feels heavier without you, and every quiet moment reminds me of how much space you filled in my life and in my heart.
You weren’t just my partner—you were my safe place, my comfort, my laughter, and my home. Loving you was one of the greatest gifts of my life, and losing you has been the hardest thing I’ve ever faced. I wish I had more time, more moments, more chances to say “I love you” and show you how much you meant to me.
I miss the little things the most—the way you looked at me, the sound of your voice, the comfort of just being near you. Those memories are painful, but they are also precious, and I will hold onto them forever.
Thank you for loving me the way you did. Thank you for choosing me, for sharing your life with me, and for leaving a piece of yourself in my heart. Even though you’re no longer here, your love still lives in me, and it always will.
I don’t know what the future looks like without you, but I promise to carry your love with me wherever I go. You will always be a part of me. Always.
Until we meet again, know that you are endlessly loved and deeply missed.. I love you, I miss you, and I will never forget you.

My condolences to Lupe’s family! I met him down here in Arizona in May 2023 at residential treatment. Im also from Montana and felt right at home being his roommate and most importantly friend. He helped me get a job at the Goodwill he worked at and always had my back! I’ll always remember the time an old lady who lived in same gated community as us thought we broke into the pool lol…I’ll never forget hanging out at the pool us Montana boys soaking in the Arizona sun, chilling, jamming and enjoying our time. God rest Lupe, I’ll see you on the other side my friend!
