Harry Dean “H.D.” Landers, age 82, of Miles City passed away on August 8, 2013 at the Advanced Care Hospital in Billings, MT following complications from heart surgery.
H.D. was born on May 30, 1931 in Edgemont, SD; the son of G.W. & Augusta (Zuehlke) Landers. He graduated from high school in Chadron, Nebraska. He married Margaret Nehren on May 27, 1951 in Hot Springs, South Dakota. Together they ranched near Hot Springs and began raising commercial and registered Hereford cattle. In 1963, they purchased a ranch from Clem Larson and moved to Sand Springs, Montana where they continued to farm and ranch. In 1975, they purchased a place just south of Miles City where they continued to ranch until they retired to live in Miles City. In H.D.’s younger years, he loved to team rope with his friend and partner Donald Weeding. He had a real passion for Hereford Cattle and had yearly production sales for over 20 years. He was a devoted 4-H leader and also served on the school board over the years. H.D. always worked to improve his ranches and in 1976 was awarded the “Conservationist of the Year” for Garfield County. He was a lifelong member of the Quarter Horse Association as well as the American Hereford Association. H.D. enjoyed watching horse races. He and Margaret owned several successful race horses that they followed. H.D. and Margaret loved to attend auctions to sort through antiques, collecting many bits and spurs over the years. He loved his family and took great pride in his grandchildren. He was anxiously awaiting the arrival of two more great grandchildren that will be born in the next two months.
H.D. will be missed by his family which include his two sons: Mike (Pat) Landers and Jeff (Dalice) Landers both of Miles City, MT; daughter Anita (Albert) Murnin of Miles City, MT; his grandchildren: Travis (Stephanie) Landers, Levi (Jessica) Landers, Tyler Landers, Jade (Kyleigh) Landers, Jared (Julie) Murnin, Chad (Stephanie) Murnin, Devin (Samantha) Murnin, Megan (Mike) Hobbs and Kevin Murnin; great grandchildren: Christopher Landers, AAliyah Landers, Cage Landers, Casey Landers, Ty Landers, Tanner Landers, Claire Murnin, Cooper Murnin, Madison Hobbs and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. I send many prayers to Harry and Margaret’s children; I know your hearts are aching and missing your folks terribly. For Harry and Margaret, I’m happy that they are resting together again and that they are living with the angels now and that neither will be in pain or without each other; they were each others other half as created by God and meant to be together always, as they are again.

Dear Family and friends of Harry Dean “H.D.” Landers. – Please be comforted by the beautiful memories and qualities of Mr. Landers. The qualities recognized by family and friends as listed above indicated that he showed much love and concern for family and friends. Also please be comforted by the sure hope of Bible promises that will be fulfilled. In the Bible book of Genesis, we notice that God intended for mankind to live in perfect conditions in the Garden of Eden, which was an earthly paradise where everything was “very good” (Gen 1:31). Suffering and death were not a part of God’s purpose but was introduced through Adam’s disobedience (Romans 5:12). There will come a time when the dead are resurrected (John 5:28, 29) and death will be done away with (Revelation 21:4) Meanwhile we have the opportunity to continue to take in Bible knowledge that leads to everlasting life and gives us comfort and hope (John 17:3).
