Harley Everett Abarr of Forsyth, Mt passed away peacefully December 9, 2012 at the Glendive Vets Home with his brother Lorin by his side. Harley was born September 7, 1924 in Bismark North Dakota to Carl & Lillian (Jones) Abarr.
Harley enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 and served in World War II. Harley was a gunner on a destroyer in Kasaan Bay in 1943, and he also served on several war ships. When Harley was discharged from the Navy he decided to continue with his passion of being a cowboy. He worked on ranches large and small in Montana and Wyoming. He met the love of his life Doris on the Valley Dude Ranch around Cody Wyoming. They were married on August 6, 1969. From this union one son, John, was born.
Harley is survived by his loving wife, Doris, Son John, two grandchildren Eric and Andromeda of Great Falls, MT., sisters Edith Bentley of Forsyth, Anna May Roan of Broadview, Mt. brothers, Don Abarr of Cody, WY, Lorin Abarr of Fallon, MT, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Harley is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lillian, and nephew Robert Abarr.
We will miss you, but will see you again when the roll is called up yonder.
In leui of flowers, memorials may be made in Harley’s name to the Rosebud County Museum or to Gideons.

I cowboyed with Harley in early 60’s at Teepee Lodge,showed me a lot about starting rank horses,Top Hand,could ride them all!Quite a gentleman as well, my memories of Him are worth telling over and over.

I AM PROUD TO BE THE SISTER OF BROTHER HARLEY. OUR FAMILY WAS LARGE TO BEGIN WITH. FIRST BORN WAS HARLEY’S BROTHER DON, WHO LIVES IN CODY, WY. HARLEY, WAS NEXT, ROBERT WHO PASSED IN 49, WAS NEXT; LORIN WAS THEN BORN. ALLEN WAS NEXT, & BORN & BURIED AT HOMESTEAD IN DRYHEAD, MT. ANNA MAY, MYSELF NEXT, THEN A LITTLE GIRL WAS BURIED ALSO IN THE DRYHEAD, THEN EDITH WHO LIVES IN FORSYTH.
MY BROTHER’S ARE & WERE ALL GENEROUS, KIND TO MANY & HARLEY INDEED WAS ONE OF THE REAL OLD TIME COWBOYS. OUR COMFORT IS THAT HARLEY DID ACKNOWLEDGE HIS LORD & SO WE ARE ASSURED WE WILL SEE HIS FACE AGAIN WHEN WE ARE EITHER CALLED HOME, OR RAPTURED. I LOVE MY FAMALIES, I WILL MISS YOU TILL WE MEET AGAIN.

Sorry to hear of Harley’s passing. We Hammetts, spent many a day horseback and visiting with Abarrs, when Harley, Doris and Johnny, lived at the Barber place on Rotten Grass Creek.
