In Memory Of

Harold Avens

Visitation: Monday, Monday, May 30, 2011 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City.

Funeral services: Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Smith West Funeral Chapel in Billings.

Interment: Mount View Cemetery in Billings.

Harold Walton Avens, age 85, of Billings passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings.

Harold was born in Rugby, North Dakota on January 18, 1926, the son of Edward and Vida (Robinson) Avens. He grew up and attended schools in Pleasant Lake, North Dakota. Following his schooling, he worked various jobs until he entered the United States Navy in 1944. Following his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to Pleasant Lake to work on the family farm. He later moved to Billings where he worked as a mechanic until moving to Glendive where he lived until 1972. He then returned to Billings and later married Elsie Rienhardt in 1974. They have made their home there since.

Harold is survived by his wife, Elsie Avens of Billings, MT; three sons: Richard Avens of Longview, WA; Harold Avens Jr. of Glendive, MT; and Jeffrey Avens of Glendive, MT; two daughters: Sharon (Widman) Avens of Glendive, MT and Mardy (Roy) Kelm of Magazine, AR; a sister, Patricia Mears of Rugby, ND; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Monday, May 30, 2011 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Smith West Funeral Chapel in Billings. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Mountview Cemetery in Billings. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
