In Memory Of

Harvey Wolff, age 67, of Miles City

June 30, 1954 – March 10, 2022

Our Community will say goodbye to a wonderful man on this day. Harvey Alan Wolff was born to Jacob and Elsie (Schlinker)Wolff on June 30th 1954, joining sister Delores, brothers Donald and James. Born in Miles City as the family lived on Crow Rock, until later moving to Kinsey, MT. HE attended school in Kinsey until transferring to Custer County District High School for his High School education. He was very Active in the FFA and Farm shop where he graduated in 1972. He attended Miles Community College for two years then transferred to Montana State University where he graduated with a B.S. in Agricultural Education . (Fitting he got a BS Degree).

During his Senior year while at the Bucking Horse Sale he was chasing one gal who had no interest and he decided to chase Linda instead and she didn’t run! He met his gal who on June 18th, 1977 would become his forever date. They and their daughter Alexa would move to Big Timber where he would teach High School Ag for a year. He decided that was not his Forte and they returned to Miles City and started working for the Young Adult Conservation Corps as a seasonal worker which led to his full time job at the Bureau of Land Management for 37 years. Harvey held many positions at the BLM driving all ”The Big Toys’ “, and filling the fire fighting planes with slurry for the many fire seasons and in the process made so many lifelong friends.

He was active as a Reserve Sheriff Deputy and was in the Army National Guard for 13 years. He was active with the VFW and was the Pyro Guy for the 4th of July Fireworks in Miles City. He worked the Bucking Horse Sale as a reserve Sheriff deputy for 30 years in many capacities. He was Linda’s right hand man for the fair as the event coordinator for more than 10 years as well as substitute teacher for CCDHS as an Ag teacher for a couple years. He was everyone’s handyman, always the jokester ribbing his nephew Donnie about his Chevy’s, and his Niece Debbie Weyer’s right hand Ranch Foreman helping her keep everything right side up.

You could find Harvey and Linda on a lunch date cruising around town in his old “44 MAG” Ford with Linda at his side like two teenagers. They loved their trips they took to Las Vegas every year for the National Finals Rodeo and to Billings to see the Grandkids. Harvey was so very proud of his daughter Alexa, her successful Accounting business and of her place that he helped make her very own. He treasured his grandsons Rye and Bailey and loved  to torture them like everyone else. He also loved to see his granddaughter Ashley when they got the chance. He was the Jokester of the family, he was always telling stories with everyone and was always helping family and friends – All they had to do is ask and he was there. He filled his days the last couple years when he wanted to, working for Valley Farmers Supply. He was always at the ready at his favorite Pawn Shops to make the next great deal to add to his many treasures packed around home and out at Debbie’s place just waiting for a purpose.

Harvey and Linda were a team, they did everything together, they worked together on all of their projects, they traveled together, made all their plans to include each other, He loved to shop for Linda, buying her beautiful jewelry and clothes. He loved to give her a hard time about her flowers but he bought her most of them and was right there to plant them and make everything beautiful to make her smile. He loved her with his whole heart and she will be lost without him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James, Sister in laws Bernice Rooney Shafer, Elnora Wolff, Brother in Laws Andy Shafer, Larry Rooney, Earl Cozzens, Robert Ley, Buck Miller, and Nephew in law Bobbie Weyer.

He is survived by his wife Linda of 44+ years, daughter Alexa Coolahan, Grandchildren Rye and Bailey Coolahan, Ashley Tinder, sister Delores (Gene) DeJarlas, brother Donald (Margot) Wolff, sister in laws Lucetta Wolff, Dorthy Ley, Dixie Cozzens, numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.

I’m sure when/if they try to put a halo on him, those tiny horns will make it askew, that would be fitting! And, keep Heaven laughing. RIP Harvey. Kitty Pugh

DEATH leaves a heartache no one can heal, LOVE leaves a memory no one can steal. author unknown. A friend sent me this quote when my husband died….. it summed up how I felt then and it is fitting again now how I am feeling losing Uncle Harvey. I cannot put into words, what Harvey did for me or what he meant to me…… “Uncle Harvey to the rescue” was something I often posted on FB. I look at the corral and say Thank you; he hung every pipe panel, he built every gate, he (& my brother), put in the waterline. I go to the feed shed and he wired it with lights so I didn’t have to feed in the dark or back the horse trailer up in the dark at the load out chute…..I look at the large slash pile that kept growing waiting to be burnt when the moisture was there and the wind was right…… I look at the tractor and think of him saying “diesel fuel & hydraulic oil is all it takes”….. Thank you for irrigating…. as I had no idea what to do & you saying it is simple, “water runs downhill.” We had so many projects planned for this summer, that will probably go undone…. RIP Harvey, I will miss your wisdom and your advise (even if I didn’t like it all the time)…… Eat Cake & Celebrate with Jesus!

Harvey was a good friend of Verlin, they could talk and tell stories for hours and hours. When Verlin passed in 2019 Harvey and Linda often included me in their family dinners out at the Blackiron. Harvey even called me on Valentine’s Day and invited me to join him and Linda for dinner, I have always thought that was so special and sincere. He truly cared for family and friends, always looking out for us. Harvey was my go to man for little projects around my house, several projects will always have Harvey’s name on it! And he loved my Molasses cookies at farmers market! I’m sure Verlin greeted him with a hearty handshake and hug in heaven!!

Harvey will be greatly missed. He had a heart of gold and always joked around to get a person to smile or just a reaction. It was obvious just how much he loved and cherished Linda and his family. Linda, moving forward, remember the wonderful times that you shared, especially the fun. These are the memories that will bring a smile to your face and give you the feeling of being blessed to have been loved by him. Celebrate Harvey’s life and know the joy he brought to people’s lives will never be forgotten. Linda and family – Sending love and strength to get through this challenging time, and comfort and peace on the journey of healing.

I knew Harvey from the fair. I can’t believe I’m using the past tense. I only ever saw him at the fair, but for me it was like he was family. What I mean is that he seemed like a friend and a relative to me. We were so alike; we thought the same things, enjoyed the same things, and found the same things funny. Before my dad in Michigan passed away, I even told him about Harvey and how he was “just like us”. Being able to see Harvey each time I showed up for the fair, was like being reunited annually with a good friend and an adored family member. My thoughts and prayers go out to Linda. Everything I’ve said about Harvey is also true of her. If anyone reading this can think of a way that I can help her in any meaningful way, please let me know. I would do anything for her. This world today needs to have more people like them.

Linda, Lexie and all of Harvey’s Family and Friends,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Harvey. When I was told of Harvey’s death, I had to ask the person to repeat what they had just said. This news certainly took me by surprise. After many questions, I found Harvey didn’t have much suffering. Good! Not sure why, but that knowledge offers me comfort. My hope is that Harvey’s family, have some of the same comfort.
My thoughts and prayers are with you Linda as well as Lexie and Harvey’s family and friends left behind. It is Always soooo very hard to say goodbye. It seems there is just a gauze of sadness that covers everything.
It helps me to imagine the welcome home Harvey has/is receiving from those family and friends that have gone before him! They will have great joy getting to see his smile, hearing his voice, and experiencing his sense of humor. Harvey has graduated from ‘University Earth’ and now is continuing another leg of the journey.

Sending many thoughts, prayers and hugs.
    Your friend,
    Joe and Connie Urick

    Linda, family and friends,
I know your pain of losing Harvey. I am sure He is giving Harold a”fun time in their here after”. We came to the NFR 28 years, meeting many of your friends you all saw while there. Always appreciated the many times Harvey drove us (what a ride) that was, to various places in Vegas. We were included in your agenda with family and friends always. The family, Dorothy, Bernice, and you and Harvey were my reason for coming those latter years. Enjoyed your visits to us in Texas and in Florida. May God bless you and keep you strong in the future. My thoughts and prayers for you.

My dear cousin, Elnora Hill Wolff, more of an older sister to me in reality, was a sister in law to Harvey as you know. When Elnora was alive, she always talked about Harvey and Linda and being excited to get together with them! She knew it would be a good time. Although I didn’t know you Linda, or your husband, I always felt like I did, because of Elnora. She loved you both and your family. I know you’re in her prayers.
