Haven Lee Looks Behind – Sasoo’ohne’e “Walks Through Women”, age 13 of Rosebud Creek, was called home by the Creator on the night of May 24, 2017.
Haven and her twin brother Javen were born in Billings, MT on July 10, 2003 to Wahlena Limpy and Kenneth Looks Behind. Haven lived a majority of her young life in the Cheyenne Home at St. Labre along with her twin brother. They also lived in various foster homes throughout the reservation. They are currently living with their aunt Mary Jane Limpy at Rosebud Creek.
Haven was a fun loving, kind sweet girl. She loved her music and dancing. She was a giving person who would give whatever she had. She was a good listener when it came to being there for her friends. She was a quiet girl who had a big smile. She loved to go for walks, and enjoyed playing sports. She did very well with her academics and had a love for reading and animals. She had a passion for baking. Haven enjoyed being around her nieces and nephews and also had a special bond with her niece Makya Soul Fightingbear and her nephew Douglas Swank Jr.
Haven was preceded in death by her mother, Wahlena Limpy; her maternal grandparents, Agnes Limpy & Henry Limpy; her aunts, Lillian, Letha, and Sarah Limpy; her uncles, James Limpy, Homer Limpy & Elvis Old Bull; grandparents, Mary Lame Woman & Pius Looks Behind; great grandparents, Annie Blackbird & Stanley Lame Woman.
Haven is survived by her twin brother, Javen Looks Behind; older brothers, Edwin Cook, Jason & Dana Tallbull; special friend, Esaun Goodluck; sisters, Wilma Tallbull, Yvonne McGuire, Lucy Johnson and special sister Michaelene Friday and Rosie Brady. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews and all her “special” friends from St. Labre School. Our family includes Limpy’s, Big Head, Littlemouth, Medicine Top, Clubfoot, Elkshoulder’s, Walkalong’s, Killsnight’s, Whitewolf’s, Limberhand’s, Spang’s Littlewhiteman’s, Manley’s, Braided Hair’s, Flying’s, Two Moons, Teeth, Littlewolf Tangs, Kills Backs, Old Bulls, Rising Sun, Atwoods, Long Jaws, Bad Horse, Lame Woman, Bearchum, Wolfblack, Redneck and Fightingbear. My heart is broken at the loss of Haven. I was her teacher at St. Labre. I can clearly see her smile and hear her laughter. I know she is with Maheo now and I pray He gives her family strength during this time of grief. Sincerely, Kathy Widdicombe

We will miss you, Haven. We always expected to see you–to sit down and visit with you–again. For the many chats and times out and about with the dogs, we are grateful. We thought about you a lot, even when we were in Mississippi (see Havens Ave.). On your final journey, we send our love and prayers. God bless you and your family.

I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to Haven’s family. There’s such a sense of helplessness when someone we love dies, especially so young. I’d like to share some scriptural thoughts that really helps me. Prayer is so valuable at this time but it’s not that prayer simply makes us feel better. 2 Cor.4:7 says that God can give us, “… power beyond what is normal “, to go from one day to the next. This does not mean that we no longer cry or that we forget, but it means we recover. The reason we recover is because of our hope. Jesus Christ talked about our hope in John 5:28, “… all those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out “. Jesus was referring to the resurrection, this is our hope that helps us recover and gives us power to go on. 2 Cor.1:3 describes our Creator as, “…the God of all comfort “. One way that God comforts us is by moving people who care about us to give us words of encouragement that we need to hear. May the God of comfort (Ps.83:18) be your comfort now during this time of sorrow.
