In Memory Of

Hazel Hanson

Visitation: Sunday, February 26, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus

Funeral Service: Monday, February 27, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hillside Alliance Church in Ashland

Interment: will follow in the Willow Crossing Cemetery in Ashland

Hazel M. Hanson, age 94, of Ashland went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at the Powder River Manor in Broadus following a short illness.

Hazel was born on the farm out of Beach, North Dakota on March 12, 1911, the daughter of John and Anna (Barttles) Vinquist. She was later joined with two brothers, Howard and Lester. As a child Hazel enjoyed riding horses. She attended a country school through the 8th grade, then graduated from high school in Beach. Hazel then attended Dickenson Teacher School for two years and received a teaching certificate. She taught in several country schools in North Dakota. She also attended Eastern Montana College to get her Montana teaching certificate. She then came to Ashland to teach the lower grades. She met Edward Hanson and after World War II they were married on June 9, 1946. They had two sons, Harold and Gary. They owned and operated Hanson Service, Red Horse Service and the Lazy FZ Motel. Hazel moved to the Powder River Nursing Home in 2001.

Hazel was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader and was active in the Ashland Community Church and Ashland Sweet Rocket Garden Club. As a family, they enjoyed summer trips to the mountain lakes out of Cooke City. She also enjoyed knitting dishrags which she had given out over 200 of them to friends and visitors. She also enjoyed playing Bingo, reading, and visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a deep faith in the Lord and enjoyed reading the Bible.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Hanson, her brothers: Lester and Howard Vinquist, and a grandson, Marc Hanson.

She is survived by two sons: Harold Hanson and his wife Norma of Ashland, MT and Gary Hanson and his wife Debbie of Big Timber, MT; five grandchildren: Brent Hanson and his wife Julean of Shelby, MT; Tary Hanson and his wife Jill of Colstrip, MT; Amy Delgatty and her husband Jason of Manhattan, MT; Jay Hanson and his wife Belinda of Big Timber, MT, and Jamie Nevin and her husband Todd of Kennewick, WA; ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 27, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hillside Alliance Church in Ashland. Interment will follow in the Willow Crossing Cemetery in Ashland. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Powder River Nursing Home in Broadus.
