Rite of Committal: will be held later in the week in Courtenay, North Dakota.

Helen Louise (Southwick) Bartkowski, age 61, of Miles City passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2006 surrounded by her family after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

Helen was born on October 14, 1944 to Howard and Eunice Southwick in Madison, South Dakota. The family moved several times during her school years and she graduated from Jamestown High School in Jamestown, ND in 1962. After graduation, she worked for R.M. Stoudt. During this time she met and married Ron Bartkowski of Courtenay, ND on June 26, 1965. Following their marriage they moved to Terry, MT where Ron taught school. While in Terry, their first daughter Joan was born in 1967. They then spent a year in Bowling Green, Ohio and then moved to Linton, ND. During this time Helen gave birth to twins, Mark and Michelle in 1971.

In 1972, the family moved to Miles City, MT. Since moving to Miles City she worked for Milwaukee Federal Credit Union, Portable Pavers and Stallard and Associates where she was employed at the time of her death. Helen was a long time member of TOPS, CCW and Altar Society. She enjoyed reading, gardening, bridge and attending school sports events and especially basketball since her twins were so actively involved in it during their high school years. She will be deeply missed by the people she came in contact with daily as she always had a smile and a pleasant word for them.

Helen was preceded in death by her father Howard Southwick, step-mother Lillian Southwick, and step-father Jerome Emo.

She is survived by her beautiful granddaughter, Addison Albrecht of Sioux Falls, SD, husband of 41 years, Ron of Miles City, daughters Joan Bartkowski of Missoula, MT, and Michelle (Aaron) Albrecht of Sioux Falls, SD, son Mark of Houston, TX, twin sister Hazel Scott of Miles City, motherEunice Emo of Jamestown, ND, sister Linda (Tom) Krumwiede of Velva, ND, brothers Phil (Mary) Southwick of Lonsdale, MN, Curt (Jill) Southwick of Rapid City, SD, a step brothers, Richard (Renae) Southwick of Fergus Falls, MN and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 with a vigil service at 7:30 pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 1:00 pm at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City, MT. Rite of Committal will be held onFriday, March 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Courtenay, North Dakota.
