Henrietta One Bear was born to Joe Bearcomesout, Sr. and Louise Onebear on August 25, 1948 in Crow Agency, Montana. Gramma Bear was raised by her grandparents James and Margaret (Seminole) Onebear on the Rosebud Creek and in Lame Deer, Montana.
Henrietta loved riding horseback. She rode all over the hills of Rosebud Creek. At the age of 10 she moved to Lame Deer with her grandparents. She later moved to Ashland again with her grandparents along with her little sister Roxanna Marie Wilson. She began and finished her education from the St. Labre School in Ashland.

She met and married her first love Emmanuel Bighead and they were later divorced. From this marriage they had three children: Emmanuel Jr., Lynette, and Benjamin.
