In Memory Of

Henry Coffin, age 73, of Ashland

On the evening of June 21st, Hank Coffin had been sitting is his favorite spot at the head of the table in the kitchen studying the Bible & recording notes in his notebook. He set things aside, bowed his head and went to ‘sleep’. One of his friends said, “Hank had more questions than he could find the answers to in the Bible; so he went to Heaven to get the answers straight from Jesus.”

Hank was born to William (Bill) & Amy Coffin. His birth name was Henry which he did not care for. Hank has two living sisters, Barbara Stein the older and Nancy Phillips the younger. He had an adopted brother named Emmett Other Medicine, who passed away a few years ago. He also has two living brothers he claimed, Otto & Martin Braided Hair.

Hank attended school in Sheridan, WY & finished High School in May of 1967. During H.S. he’d participated in FFA, DECA Business Management Club, Football & Boxing. His favorite H.S. class was Shop.

Hank had a God given ability to disassemble & reverse engineer parts for all sizes of machines to make them work again and most of the time better than they had ever worked to begin with.

For a short time while he was young he was also a member of a small country western band with his brother, Emmett, and some of his cousins. They did play a few dances & other venues.

Growing up, Hank spent as much of his time as he could living on the Schedlock family ranch helping with chores and eventually breaking horses with his cousins under Grandpa Schedlock’s tutelage. His first paid job was breaking horses for Ed Needens. He’d been employed in numerous jobs & held many credentials throughout the years retiring from Talen Energy in 2015.

Hank is survived by his wife, kitte (Brien) Coffin and seven living sons & daughters which he had through two prior marriages: Estal (Bill), Paul, Bill (Carlene), Elona, Eugenia (Rob), Trist (Melissa) & Cody (Cassie). He is also survived by three daughters by love which he gained through his third & last marriage to kitte: Prairie (Troy), Meadow (Eugene) & Pastor Rosebud (Pastor Abe).

Hank is survived by 15 grandsons which included Kass Aaron, whom kitte had taken as her son when he was born, 20 granddaughters, 4 great-grandchildren and far too many nieces, nephews and cousins to count. He loved them all and spent much time in prayer for them each morning.

In early 2001 Hank’s life changed (St. John 3:3) in that he’d repented (1 John 1:9) of his sin, asked Jesus Christ (Romans 10:9-10) to be his Savior (St. John 3:16) and made a commitment to live according to the Word of God which he was progressively doing. He met his wife, kitte, at church in Lame Deer, proposed the first visit he had with her & was a few months short of celebrating their 21st wedding anniversary.

We love and miss you Hank, Dad, Papa, Uncle, Brother, Cousin, Friend …

Please let Kitte know if you wish to attend the Celebration of Life.

Hank was a good friend, he would never swear even when it called for it.
I enjoyed visiting with him and listening to his views of the world. Didn’t get to see much of him these last years but it was always like it had been just a short time ago.
    RIP Hank.

All the times I came to visit Hank and Kitte or go up for Bible studies, I was always welcomed warmly. They were and are very graciously accepting. Amazing people.

Hank was a knowledgeable man…shared his wisdom often as he would deliver the lesson packs they so graciously made for my dad and I. The meeting place was the Post Office…only once had we planned to meet at T&R and ended up running into one another at the post office…we had a good laugh. Hank and Kitte are true angels sent to earth to teach God’s Way….he will be missed my many, I am sure of that.

I worked with Hank for many years in Colstrip. He was a great craftsman and an all around good guy. Shared his knowledge with a lot of apprentices. Gone way to soon. God must have something he needed fixed. RIP.

Oh Kitty, I’m so very sad to learn of Hanks passing. It was such a joy to see you both in church here in Lame Deer. As time passes and we lose touch with people but we have fond memories to hold on to. Those memories are tender and I know you have a treasury of them. You know Hank is at his greatest reward and I pray you and all in the family will pull together support each other. Please know my family and I are praying for you.

I didn’t ever really get to know you well Hank, but you helped raise great nieces and nephews to which I am very grateful! You took them in as your own and cared for them! It takes a special kind of person to be able to do that. Your reward is waiting! Enjoy and rejoice with our savior until we can join you someday very soon!

Years ago, Hank marked my circular saw blades for me….and I think added in some that I didn’t have. I still use them and have been thankful many times that I knew which one to use. It may have been a small thing to him, but has been a real blessing to me! I know he is with the Lord, the loss and empty place is hard to live with. Kitty and family, you will be in our prayers for comfort and peace as you go through this time of change and loss.
