Herbert Rauch, age 97, of Lewistown, Montana and formerly of Wolf Point, Montana passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at the Lewistown Nursing Home.
Herbert was born in Marion, South Dakota on August 16, 1910 to Martin and Helen (Jantzen) Rauch. His family moved from South Dakota in 1917 and homesteaded 30 miles north of Wolf Point. Herbert attended Liberty School through the eighth grade and went to Lustre Bible School for two years. He met and married Ida Schmidt on July 15, 1937 in Richey, Montana and lived in the Richey community until 1940. They bought a farm in the Volt area, 28 miles north of Wolf Point. Due to the country school closing, they bought a house in Wolf Point in 1957, and Herbert spent winters constructing houses for approximately ten years. Herbert was actively involved at the Community Bible Church in Wolf Point. He spent many hours enjoying music and woodworking.
Herbert is preceded in death by his wife, Ida (Schmidt) Rauch and brothers, Jacob Rauch and Albert Rauch.
He is survived by his children: Ila M. Hagen of Hines Creek, Alberta, Canada, Harry G. (Myrna) Rauch of Lewistown, Montana, and Arlie D. (Ruth) Rauch of Glendive, Montana; brother, Harold (Norma) Rauch of Wolf Point; sisters, Rose Rauch, Ruth Rauch, and Hulda Schmidt of Wolf Point; 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, December 28 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Funeral Services will be Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point with the Rev. Arlie Rauch officiating. Interment will follow at the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church Cemetery in Lustre, Montana
