Hillery E. Pearl Hartzel, age 89, of Miles City passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2010 at Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.

Hillery was born in Struthers, Ohio November 7, 1921 to Regina Harvey and Thomas Pearl. She graduated from Struthers High School in 1939 and attended Youngstown State University to study law. In 1941 she and Joseph Hartzel were married in Struthers, Ohio where both her children were born. In 1956 the family moved to Tucson, Arizona where Hillery worked for Pan American Airlines as an Executive Secretary for several years. She later worked for Pio Decimo Preschool where she worked in the office as well as in the classrooms with the children. She loved working with the children and kept many fond memories of her time spent there. In 1999 Hillery moved to Miles City to be closer to her granddaughters and great grandchildren and spoiled them with her signature homemade rolls, cookies, and spaghetti and meatballs.

Hillery loved gardening, listening to big band music, taking care of the neighborhood squirrels, spending time with her family, and sharing a cup of tea with a friend. She was an avid reader and read piles of books, many of them to her great grandchildren.

Hillery is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Hartzel, her brother Thomas Pearl and two grandsons, Andy Hartzel and Frank Williams.

She is survived by her son, Thomas (Joan) Hartzel of Elko, Nevada; a daughter, Julie Williams of Tucson, Arizona; a sister-in-law Marietta Pearl; grandsons: Thomas (Debra) Hartzel of Fort Bragg, NC and Jon DeNiro of Youngstown, OH; granddaughters Tamara (Terry) Young of Miles City, MT and Jeannette (Conan) Donnelly of Miles City, MT; and grandsons Ray Hartzel of Casa Grande, AZ and Stephen (Ginny) Hunt of Aurora, CO. She is also survived by several great grandchildren: Patrick (Toni), Kevin (Makenzie), and Sarah Hartzel; Brian (Natasha) Gray; T.J., Joseph, and Sandra Young; Matthew, Rachel, and Katie Donnelly; and Brenden Williams. She also had a special adopted grandson Jose Rodriguez.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Healthcare Chapel in Miles City. Interment will be held at a later date.
