Homer Limpy, Ho’honahke (Little Rock), 77, passed away December 6, 2016 at his home on the Rosebud Creek. Homer was born November 18, 1939, to Agnes Littlewhiteman and Henry Limpy. As tradition dictated, Homer, being the firstborn grandson, was taken and raised by his grandparents, Maimi Limberhand and Fredrick Limpy Sr. in the Lame Deer area. At the age of ten, Homer was reunited with his biological parents and his siblings. Homer attended school in Busby and St. Labre. He graduated from Busby, where he was the prom king of his class.
Homer was married to his grade school crush, Cora Spotted Elk in 1967. To them was born his only child Lisa M. Limpy. They made their home in Lame Deer. Homer and Cora divorced and later reunited in 1980.
Homer was a Head Start teacher’s aide; he acquired his welder’s certification from the welder’s school in Denver, Colorado, where he was awarded a gold watch for achieving the highest academic ranking of his class. He also earned his iron workers certification from Gary, Indiana. He attended and completed Law Enforcement Training at the Indian Police Academy in Artesia, New Mexico. He also worked as a security guard for the Morning Star Enterprise and ARCO companies.
As a young fella, Homer became the champion marble shooter of the Busby school. Homer, as a grade schooler, won out his high school opponents. He went on to win the State Marble Championship one year in which he was given a large granite marble trophy. Homer was a renowned legendary crafter of bean shooters. He was a perfectionist when it came to fixing his sling shots. He was a devout member of the Catholic Church and attended regular to the Lame Deer Church. Homer was a Bald Eagle Dancer and his painter was August Spotted Elk. Homer was also an avid bingo player.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Agnes, his siblings, Jimmy, Elvis, Lillian, Leitha, Sara, Doris, Edith and his special nephew Tim ‘Bob’ Whistlingelk.

Porter & Ann Knows His Gun says
Deepest Condolences my dearest friend Lisa & Limpy family! Homer was too cool, laid back cat yet out in the community. So many memories and a few stories of his existence in my life alone. From years ago he always tortured me about being a run-away as a teen, scolding me for being a “way ward” kid. Little did I know he’d be my “tax prep” person when I moved back home, always accurate in his figures.
I think everyone who knows him, at point one in time received the gift of his famous homemade sling shots with pieces of sticks and rubber bands. I did years ago in our old office on Cheyenne Avenue. One day he sat there, had his “tools” and commenced to make me a sling shot with a story of course 😀 …. him being an Elder I had to sit there, listen and watch him at the same time. Well, Homer ~ say hi to my little brother TimBob on other side, tell him big sister misses him & loves him :'( At least TimBob will have family joining him in peace. May you Rest In Peace Homer Limpy!!

Even though I moved from Lame Deer in the1970’s, I always went back yearly to visit and Homer was one of those that I visited. He was always wanting to talk and know how Albuquerque was doing and how my sister in Michigan was doing. Had a lot of good talks with him. He will be missed.

He worked at the Busby school when I was growing up there, and he was always such a nice person. He always had a smile on his face, and had a kind word for the kids in the school. He would always tell us that we could do anything we wanted to do in life, that we had to stay in school, get our education. I’m sure that he will be deeply missed by so many people in his community. Rest in peace cousin Homer. I have nothing but good memories of you.
Kay Eagle Staff says
My condolences to my relatives, Homer was a first cousin to my mother Katherine Eagle Staff, we went there many years ago for a reunion, uncle Eugene said to me that we don’t say cousins, she (meaning my mom) is my sister; this made me feel good cause that’s how my Arapaho family were raised too. One time I asked aunt Mary Jane about family history, she told me Homer would be the one to talk to, I truely wish that could’ve happened, you see it was my mom who asked me to research this side of the family for her once she found out she was related to the Limpy’s. I wish I could do more, you are in my prayers, many blessings to you. Kay Eagle Staff

Homer was my teacher when he worked at the Busby School as a teacher’s aid….he would sit by me and watch me try to figure out math. One day I told him, “I can’t do math” and he told me, “there is no such word as can’t because you can do it”….them few words he said to me has stuck in my head, I will always remember what he said. Every time I’d see him at the Casino, I would tell him, “Hi teacher” and he would say back, “remember there is no such word at can’t”….My prayers for your daughter Lisa and your family…..R.I.P Homer, I’m going to miss seeing you around.

I was so sorry to hear when, how uncle passed. My family and I send our prayers & love Lisa, & to your family. As Homer’s only child, you & yours had the love of your earthly father. And Homer knew he was loved in return.
My memories of Homer were all good. Even as children, Homer would take the time to sit and talk with us, he’d see what we were doing and tell us what he was up to. He was so proud of his service in the military and tell us what classes he was taking in college. Rest in peace Homer.
Father in heaven has so much grace and mercy. We all go thru difficulties, it makes clear the spiritual battle that exists but can certainly be defeated. The awesome good news is Jesus already paid the price . . .

May the family find comfort in loving memories, and in knowing that God is “close to those that are broken at heart; and he saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18) Our loving Creator, Jehovah God, has promised to soon “swallow up death forever…and wipe the tears from all faces” (Isaiah 25:8). With deepest sympathy.
