In Memory Of

Hope Ruth Schell, age 37, of Miles City.

November 27, 1984 – November 19, 2022

Hope Ruth Schell was born November 27, 1984, at Belle Fourche, SD to Robert (Bob) and Ruth (Burmeister) Schell, the youngest of six children.  Hope passed away November 19, 2022 at Billings, MT.  Hope faced many health challenges in her life and this last one was just too much for her to overcome.  There will be no services and her ashes will be buried next to her parents in a private family service at a later date.

Hope enjoyed living on the ranch in the Long Pines northwest of Camp Crook, SD.  She could often be found outside with the ranch dog nearby, keeping watch over her or helping her get into mischief, depending on the day.  She spent many hours riding along behind Dad (or anybody else she could talk into a ride) on his horse, checking and moving cows, and later on her own horse.  She enjoyed riding along to feed cattle in the pickup or tractor.  Going for evening drives in the hills to look for deer was also a frequent occurrence.  Her love for baby animals was evident as well and she would often be the first to discover a new batch of baby kittens.  She also spent time watching old westerns, particularly those starring John Wayne, and Disney movies, or listening to music – often at max volume so everyone else in the house could hear it too.  Hope liked being around people and enjoyed riding the bus to school in Camp Crook and then going to school in Buffalo when Jo started high school.  She stole everyone’s heart and was loved beyond measure and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her siblings: Julie Schell; Rose (Todd) LaRowe and their children, Nicole (Josh) Zent and son, Joshua, and Clint (Nycole) LaRowe and daughters, Lyv and Andi; Tim (Jodi) Schell and their children Milton, Saxon, Anton, Elsa and Ayda; Lila (Kirby) Baier and their sons, Ryne (fiancé Jada Rokke) and Kyler; and Jo (Jeff) Thompson and their children, Rachel and Matthew.  She is survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Hope was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Ruth Schell; paternal grandparents, William and Blanche Schell; Maternal grandparents, Harry and Gladys Burmeister; many aunts, uncles and several cousins.

We are sad to read about the death of Hope. She was very sweet to us, although we really weren’t around her very much. I know she leaves a hole in your hearts. I pray for your comfort in knowing she is with Bob and Ruth and at peace.

I’m so sorry for the loss of Hope. The time she went to school with me was a treasure and she helped me gain a perspective on people I wouldn’t have without her. I always enjoyed our friendship and even years later I always enjoyed seeing her and getting hugs. I have many wonderful memories with her and think of her often. My love goes to the family. ♡
