In Memory Of

Hubert Hopkins

Memorial Service: Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus.

Interment: will follow at the Valley View Cemetery with full Military Honors.

Our Dad, their Grandpa, your friend, Hubert (Hugh) Chester Hopkins, age 85, of Broadus, Montana passed away on December 25th, 2008 after having spent the holiday with his family. He is now rejoined with Evelyn, his wife of nearly 60 years.

Hubert was born at the family farm on August 8th, 1923 to Golda Valentine (Baker) and Chester C.E. Hopkins. He spent his growing up years in the Broadus area. He met and married Phyllis Taylor in 1939. They moved to Missoula, Montana where they were blessed with two sons, Hillier Hubert and Robert Chester. In 1944 he joined the Army to do his part in the Great War, WWII. He served his country in the Philippines. After the surrender of Japan he spent brief time ship side in Japan. After being honorably discharged he returned stateside and back to Montana.

In 1946, Hubert married Evelyn Mahoney and they spent the next 60 years loving and laughing together. Hubert and Evelyn have 5 additional children, Kaye Ann, Darrell Hiram, Joan Evelyn, Lynn Alison and Lori Golda. Hubert and Evelyn spent a few of their early years in California where he worked for Ford Motor Company and provided welding services to a master ship building company. He seemed to really enjoy the work but wanted to move back to Montana and the simpler life. He worked ranch jobs, drove truck and leased the Standard Station in Broadus before moving to Glendive, Montana in 1966. Hubert managed both the ELKS and the Moose Clubs in Glendive for several years with Evelyn working right beside him. Next they decided to take the risk of owning their own business and purchased the Twilite Lounge and Supper Club. The business was an overnight success as loyal customers from the ELKS and Moose followed them to the Twilite. They operated the Twilite until they decided to slow down a bit. They then bought the Lindsay Recreation and spent several years serving food and drinks to the farmers and ranchers in the area.

When he retired they moved to Grass Range for a few years then back to Broadus so they could be closer to friends and family.

Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 60 years, 3 sisters and 2 grandchildren.

He is survived by 2 brothers, Larry and Norm, his 7 children and their families, Hillie & Patricia, Bob & Barb, Kaye & KD, Darrell & Joey, Joan & Keith, Lynn & Mark and Lori & Dale and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and one great, great, great grandchild. Whew!! He loved us all and will be sorely missed.

Thanks to the staff at the Powder River Manor for their loving care.

You've found your sunset, at last Cowboy...
