Mrs. Hughette Daily Benge passed away on August 28, 2018 in Helena, Montana. She was born on April 30, 1925 in Miles City, Montana to Hugh and Chloe (Main) Daily. She was raised in Ashland, Montana where she attended area schools and graduated from high school in Miles City in 1942.
Due to WWII and a shortage in the workforce, she quit college and went to work as a secretary at the Star Printing Company. She later worked at the Custer County Welfare Department and the Montana State Highway Department until her marriage.
Hughette married Milton Benge December 26, 1945, when he was home on furlough from the U. S. Army. After Milton’s discharge in 1946, they returned to Volborg, Montana to live on the family farm for the next twelve years. During this time their children Douglas, Kathryn, and Marilyn were born. In 1958, she and Milton moved their family to Miles City.
During her years in Miles City, she supported Milton’s business at the Recreation Center Bowling Alley and stayed home to raise their three children. After the children were out of high school, she went to work at the Custer County Treasurer’s Office. In 1976, she took on a new challenge and found enjoyment working as a bookkeeper at the Custer County Rest Home.
She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Miles City. After her retirement, she and Milton enjoyed traveling to bowling tournaments in their motor home with friends. She loved to bowl and hoped to find a bowling alley in heaven. In addition, she attended many musical events to support Milton’s passion for music.
Hughette devoted many years caring for others. When Milton developed health issues, she cared for him at home and later visited him daily at the Friendship Villa. Upon his death, she remained in Miles City until her 90th birthday. After a big celebration with her family and friends present, she moved to Touchmark, a senior living center, in Helena, Montana, to be close to her daughter, Marilyn.
While there, she found enjoyment completing jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and bingo, and making latch hook rugs.
She is survived by her three children: Douglas (Lucy) Benge, Kathryn (Fredrick) Patten, and Marilyn (Gary) Hendrix; seven grandchildren: Kevin (Nicole), Todd (Catrina), and Brett (Elizabeth) Benge; Krista (Nathan) Jorgenson, Chad (Lynsey) Patten; Kimberly (Neil) Patterson, Greg (Lindsay) Hendrix; 14 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Amy Oliver. As she treasured her family, her life will be treasured in beautiful ways by them.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, September 6th at 1:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City with family receiving friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 7th at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Miles City. Dave Schott and family says
Hughette and my mom got to be close friends while caring for their husbands and having lunch together at Friendship Villa. After Mom wound up in the Villa, Hughette would come out to visit and play cards with her. I was always amazed by Hughette’s energy and capabilities given her age. She would walk from her home to/from the Villa. Hughette was an amazing lady. I am sorry to hear that she has passed. My sincere condolences to her family.

Marilyn and Family
It is sad to learn that you recently lost your Mother. Losing one’s parents is always difficult even when they have had comparatively full lives. Clearly with number of grandchildren and great grandchildren that she was blessed with, her latter years were indeed full. But throughout, I am certain the missed Milton and am comforted that they are together again.
Our warm thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

So sorry for your loss Doug, Kathy and Marilyn. Wish I could be there with you all to celebrate her life. Since you all lived on the Benge Ranch when I was born, guess it was natural for Aunt Hughette to become my second mother. I was so blessed by her love. Despite her best effort, I never was any good at crossword or jigsaw puzzles. We did both love to play cards, which we did when we were together last and she was one sharp 92 year old! Guess our next card game will be in heaven and I will miss her until then. Rest in peace my beloved Aunt Hughette! Love you to the moon and back! ❤
Mary Snell says
My sincere sympathies and prayers to the Benge family.
Kim R Smarsh says
My deepest sympathies to Hughette’s family. She was such a gracious and welcoming person. She thought when we started talking about the Relay For Life that it was such a crazy idea. But she was willing to help and see what happened. I’ll never forget how astonished she was at the end of the first year. And she was a trooper. Pulling her camper out there and spending the night to help.

To the family of Hughette Benge we send our heart felt sympathies , thoughts and prayers and now she is at peace and walking with her Lord and Savior.
I understood that she had something to do with the “Relay for Life” here and how special it was to know as I have been a cancer survivor for many years to do with thyroid cancer, breast cancer, carcinoma’s and skin cancers. my husband had a procedure done near and eye and is now o.k. We have attended since we moved here 5 years ago. my husband Jerry is the pastor of the First United Methodist Church.
May God wrap His loving arms around all of you and may you feel His presence, comfort, love , strength, and peace.
God bless each and every one of you, and the message you hear may it bring comfort and peace.
