Imelda Barney Wounded Eye, age 68 left us on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at 4:22 PM. She was born on May 27, 1953 to Martha Shavehead and Melvin Minton Woundedeye Sr. Imelda was a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. She lived most of her life here in Lame Deer, Montana with her husband, Robert Barney and two sons, Ollie, and Ahoh J. Barney, Jaylee, Luprincia, Kalee, Booboo, Jayrell, and the twins. She got her associates degree at a young age at Chief Dull Knife College.
Imelda attended the Mormon placement program (boarding school). Imelda and Robert got married in 1981. She loved children and loved teaching as a headstart teacher here at ABC Headstart for many years. She was very traditional and was known as a Ceramony women. She loved hearing and going to Peote meeting and sweats. Her dear friends were Holda Roundstone and Anna May Ryan, Andy Elkshoulder, Carla-she worked with at headstart for many years and coworker, Carla Fisher.
She left behind her siblings Joyce Wounded Eye, Melvin Woundedeye Jr., and Davis Woundedeye, Waldo Wolfchief to reunite with her other sibling (Sisters) Rosella, Melvina, Vita, Wilma, Selma, brother, Melville Woundedeye.
Imelda loved her family very much, especially her nieces and nephews: Ronnette Bighead, Billie Joy Whitewolf, Lonnie Bighead, Stephine Rose Killsontop, Roxanne Woundedeye, Robert Jefferson Jr. (Bobby), Keenan Jefferson, Sally Woundedeye, Marus Woundedeye, Meridith Woundedeye, Oliver Woundedeye, Burton Rider, Beda Rider; cousins, Paul Ryan, Quint Ryan, Brent Ryan, Gayleen Ryan, Veenissa Ryan, Robert Bearchum, Nakia Bearchum, Christy Bearchum, Vann Ryan Jr.; families; Rusells, Killsontops, Medicine Flying, and Littleoldman, Standingelk, Shavehead, and Whitehawks.
We are terribly sorry if we left anyone out in our time of grief, our family is very large.
