The angels took Irene Katherine Ban to her heavenly home on April 6, 2010.
Irene, the eldest child of George and Amelia (Propp) Schmidt, was born April 8, 1925, at Billings, Montana. She received her education in Billings, graduating from Senior High in 1943. Her dad was a section foreman for the NP Railroad and transferred to Blatchford near Terry, Montana. One Easter, neighbors Ivan and Hattie Ban invited the elder Schmidts and Irene, then employed in Billings, for dinner. Ivans youngest brother Frank was also invited. Frank and Irene began dating and were later married July 29, 1950, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City. For the last 60 years they have built up Ban Ranch north of Terry. Here they reared their five children: Darrell, Cathy, Cindy, Ty and Todd. Above all else, Irene loved her family.
Irene liked to dance and play cards. Irene and Frank traveled to Branson, Las Vegas, went fishing in Alaska and took the trip of a lifetime to Germany to meet her first cousin. While in Europe they also traveled to Austria, Slovenia and Croatia. She was a 60 year member of Sacred Heart Church of Terry.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Bobby.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Frank Ban; children: Darrell (Dorothy) Ban of Cheyenne, WY, Cathy (Gary) Kalmback of Fallon, MT; Cindy (Bill) Stephenson of Hysham, MT; Todd (Annette) Ban and Tyrone Ban all of Terry. Grandchildren are Jason Ban, Amy (Randy) Thomas, Shayna (Jay) Phalen, Layne Kalmback, Garrett (Jenalyn) Kalmback, Riley Stephenson (fiance Beth), Tyler Stephenson, Chelsea Ban and Courtney Ban. Great grandchildren are Allison and Madison Thomas and Caleb Phalen. She is also survived by her sister Helen Robinson of Billings, MT and two special nieces Carol (Jim) Pickens and Gail Irene (Tony) Hoer both of Billings along with sister-in-law Ann Frette of Billings, brother-in-law Ed Ban of Terry, and sister-in-law Loraine Ban Grist of Laurel.
Moms body and mind were truly getting tired and God saw that and softly and tenderly called her to him for all eternity.
