In Memory Of

Irene Schreiber, age 99, of Miles City.

July 1, 1913 – December 20, 2012

Irene Bertha (Meitzner) Schreiber, age 99 of Miles City, Montana went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 20, 2012 at Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.

Irene was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith of the Lutheran Church and her scripture verses: Psalms 27:1 “The Lord is my light and salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life of whom shall I be afraid.”  Matthew 28:19 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

Irene was born on July 1, 1913, in Utica, Michigan on the family farm just outside of Detroit.  She was the oldest daughter of eight children born to Fred and Marie Meitzner.  As a youth, Irene attended Utica schools and also worked on the family farm supplying produce to the markets in Detroit and the surrounding areas.

Irene later met Theodore A. Schreiber whom she married at the Schreiber Family Home in Miles City in 1942, just days before Ted deployed to Europe and World War II.

Mrs. Schreiber was an active lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City.  Her commitment to serving her Lord included teaching Sunday School for 30 years, serving on committees and boards, and as an officer in Ladies Guild, The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and Ladies Aid.

In addition to her commitment to her church and family, Irene worked many years for Shores Department Women’s Clothing Store as well as Andersons and Anthonys.  She also took much pleasure in gardening and tending to her flowers which was a joy and carryover from her Michigan youth.

Irene is survived by her son, Theodore F. Schreiber, his wife, Pam and their son, Paul of Miles City; and her son, James C. Schreiber, his wife, Jorja, of Bigfork, Montana, as well as a sister, Elvera Travis and a brother, Elmer Meitzner, of Utica, Michigan together with numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, her parents, and 5 brothers and sisters, Helen, Eleanor, Lawrence, Fred, and Art.

Irene loved her family, her friends, her church and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A Funeral service will be at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday, December 27th with a visitation at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday December 26th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m.  Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.  Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting:  www.stevensonandsons.com.

Memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Jim, Ted, Pam, Jorja, and Paul,

Irene was a beautiful person, I enjoyed both her and your dad growing up, and when we lived in town, and were “neighbors” we also enjoyed spending time with her there. I think we trick or treated them almost every year, a tradition I didn’t stop as an adult, and took my kids with me when I had them. I wanted to let you know that the kids and I trick or treated her at the hospital this year, and she was out of candy, I told her we took hugs instead, and she squeezed both the boys tight. They had a plate of cookies to give to her this Christmas, and we didn’t make it, but they said “But she is in Heaven with her husband, and that is a better place (with happy/sad tears shining in their eyes)”. What a blessing to have known her. She is dancing in Heaven with your dad/grandpa and watching down on all of us.
    Our deepest sympathies,
    Mollie, Aaron, Robert and Michael

    December 27, 2012 at 3:09 pm

Dear Ted and all the family:

We heard yesterday from Ty Kailey that your dear mother had passed away. Actually felt saddened by that news even though we realize she has had a good long life. It is just not happy news when you hear someone dear has left this earth. In your mother’s case, we know she is in a better place and enjoying being in the presence of the Lord ~ and also seeing your Dad and other loved ones once again. Teddy, you have always been such a wonderful guy; we have known you for many years now:)! ~ and your Mom was always such a sweet and welcoming lady. I remember her from days at Shores ~ when I was in high school and worked at Sweetbriar. I always hoped to get Mrs. Schreiber to help me at Shores rather than anyone else ~~ She was just so nice.
We send our sympathy and love to you during this time of loss….
    Heartfelt:)
    Doug and Teri

    Dear Ted & Jim,

It is with a heavy heart that I hear of the passing of your dear mother. Our memories of her and your father Ted go back so many years, to the early ’50’s. They were especially good friends of my own parents at that time, and they were always so kind to me and my brothers also. I, together with my wife and two children, visited your parents in, I believe, 1984. They had never met the Schreiber’s before, but were all taken with the great love and hospitality we were shown. Such wonderful memories we have! How fortunate we are to realize that, through faith in our Savior Jesus Christ, we all have eternal life. Our condolences to you and your famileis.

    Jim and Ted,
I just learned of your loss from my brother Dave. Your mother had a huge impact on my life – as she did on the lives of many others. She was just a fantastic lady and truly one of God’s special people. She will be sorely missed, but will live on in the hearts of all of us that she touched. My sincere condolences to you and your families.
