Belle (Isabelle) Irene Kirby, age 89 died at Grand Park Assisted Living on Monday, December 7, 2009. She was born the third daughter of Hugh McCain and Rose Marks McCain on December 14, 1919 at the family home at the head of Hammond Valley, Northwest of Forsyth. She attended school at Mission Valley, Vananda and Hammond Valley, growing up in those communities. She married (James) Burt Kirby on May 7, 1939. They made their home on the Kirby Homestead north of Colstrip until moving to Billings in 1956. Belle and Burt had three children, Lois, Jim and Steve. Surviving Belle are her sister, Lynn Pluhar of Miles City, daughter, Lois (Bob) Stevenson, son, Jim (Nancy) Kirby, and daughter-in-law, Nancy Kirby. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Barbara, Carol, Kelly Jo, Larry, Jeffery, Robert, Jane, and Mike. Great grandchildren are Nicole, Brett, Kelly, Jace, Dylan, Whitney, Haley, Christopher, Austin, Alyssa, Ashley, Kaitlyn, Karlee, and Matthew. Belle was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Madge Brooks and Minnie Krueger, her son Steve, her husband Burt, and her great-grandson, Tyson Merrifield.
If Belle had any hobbies, it would be enjoying God's beautiful creation and making things grow. She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses since 1952. Her worship and service of God was a great joy in her life. She died with a firm hope of the resurrection and greatly appreciated the worldwide Christian brotherhood, as well as her loving, caring family.
