Iva Waldo, age 100, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at the Prairie Community Nursing Home in Terry.
Iva was born in Amidon, North Dakota on May 30, 1919 to John and Lily Weagel. She had three brothers Otis, Walter and Ralph and a sister Lyda Houchen. In September of 1936 she moved with her family to a farm at Sidney, Montana. She would often talk about riding with her sister on top of their possessions in the back of the truck all the way to Sidney. She did housework for several ladies and worked for a short time at the Yellowstone Merc. On April 18, 1939, she married their next door neighbor Wayne Waldo. They lived in Sidney where Wayne drove a grocery delivery truck. On April 26, 1943 their daughter LaVonne was born. The following year they moved to a farm on the Buffalo Rapids project. On February 16, 1947, they welcomed another daughter Bonnie to the family. Then on January 7, 1954, Wayne and Iva finally got their boy, Wade Wayne.
Iva liked gardening and canning, flowers and mowing grass. She spent many hours sewing and made many of the girls clothing and crocheting. She made afghans for all her children and grandchildren. Iva loved her church, was a Sunday school teacher for several years and was a member and officer of the ladies group at church. She spent many years in the Hatchet Creek Homemakers Club holding offices in the club as well as in the county. Wayne and Iva took many trips and loved to spend their winters in Arizona. In 1992 Iva moved to Glendive where she lived until November of 2017 when she moved into the nursing home in Terry.
Iva was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sister, her husband Wayne, son Wade and son-in-law Lynn Haidle. In the late 1960s I had the pleasure of meeting Iva when my job was to teach science to the middle schoolers in the Grandy Building. Her son Wade was a remarkable person. She had to have been an outstanding parent. My heart is with the family at this time of loss. Saying that last goodbye to a mother is not an easy thing to do.
Louise Twitchell says
Sorry for your loss

Iva was such a special neighbor and a good friend for my mother. I treasure the memories of times spent at the Waldo home!
Cole Waldo says
Iva was a great aunt. I have many wonderful memories of visits to Wayne & Iva’s farm for holidays and family events. She kept Wade, Scott, Rod, Tim and I under control with a firm but gracious hand. She was a strong woman.
Jane Huber says
Iva was a beautiful woman, inside and out! Classy and down to earth! So sorry for your loss.
Scott Waldo says
Sometimes when growing up we are blessed with an extra someone, in addition to our parents, to take an interest in and provide guidance to us. I was fortunate in having Aunt Iva be that someone for me. She was full of kindness, caring, and consideration but, as cousin Cole said, she was strong. I came to value her ready wit with which she provided guidance to me as a boy, though I did not always appreciate it then.

When someone we love fall asleep in death the memories we have of them become our treasure. So take time to grieve and find comfort in knowing that God is near all those calling on Him. Psalms 145:18. My condolences to the family.
