Ivan John Ban age 94 of Terry, MT. passed away Saturday, March 11, 2006 at the Prairie County Nursing Home in Terry, MT.

Ivan was born May 1, 1911 to Nicholas and Mary (Zundich) Ban in Gospic, Austria. At age 11 Ivans family moved to the United States to the farm north of Terry. Ivan went to work on the family farm, and also worked on the XIT Ranch with his father. Ivan also attended school in the Terry area, and eventually graduated from the Terry High School. Ivan soon met Hattie Tschaekofske, and they were married on November 4, 1938. Soon after they purchased the Huft Ranch west of Terry where they ranched and farmed until 1962, when they semi-retired. Ivan then worked as the Under Sheriff of Prairie County for Gary Larson until 1970, and then Ivan was elected as the County Assessor for two terms. Ivan and Hattie would begin spending the winters in Quartzsite, AZ and later in Parker, CO. They would make Colorado their new home in 1993 moving to Lafayette, CO. In 1995 due to ill health Ivan and Hattie moved back to Terry where they have made their home since.

Ivan loved playing horse shoes, any kind of card game, music, and playing the banjo. Ivan also enjoyed dancing, but most of all he loved the time he was able to spend with his family.

Ivan is survived by his daughter Diedree (David) Hess of Brighton, CO; Grandchildren, Michele Sanders of Edwards, CO, Candice Dow of Brighton, CO, Pam (Ross) Bartholomay of Littleton, CO, Duane (Jessica) Hess of Broomfield, CO; nine Great Grandchildren; Brothers, Frank (Irene) Ban of Terry, MT, Ed Ban also Terry, MT; Sister, Ann Frette of Billings, MT.

Ivan was preceded in death by his wife Hattie in 1999, grandson Mike in 1974, son Larry in 1960 and his Brother Joe.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with Vigil service starting at 6:00 pm at the Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Terry, MT. Rite of Committal will follow in the Prairie County Cemetery in Terry, MT. Condolences may be sent to the family by visitingwww.stevensonandsons.com.
