J.A. Perry III, age 71 of Miles City, passed away on October 2, 2018 at the Friendship Villa in Miles City.
He was born on July 25, 1947 in Forsyth, MT. J.A. was the son of J.A. Perry Jr. “Pinky” and Maryona Miller. His parents purchased The Twenty Ranch on Rosebud Creek about 12 miles south of Rosebud in 1941. J.A. grew up on the ranch and eventually was a third owner in the ranch with his brother George and Mother Maryona after Pinky had passed away in an automobile accident. Shortly after, they moved to a ranch on porcupine creek near Vananda, MT, when his mother Maryona was married to Roy S. Johnson. In the summer of 1953 the family moved back to the Twenty Ranch. He went to school at Rosebud and enjoyed playing track and football. J.A. graduated 4th in his class on May 19, 1965. After high school he went to Rocky Mountain College on a football scholarship and later transferred to Montana State University to join the Rodeo team and finish his schooling. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Production. J.A. loved the ranching life when it came to brandings, harvest in the fall as well as shipping time. He loved the holiday seasons spending time with family and friends at community picnics and fairs. One of J.A.’s most memorable experiences was the birth of his son Jason.
J.A. is survived by his son Jason Perry Harris and Jason’s mother Nancy Fillafer; his mother Maryona Johnson and his half-brother Dick Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father Pinky and his brother George Perry.
