Jack Arley Deibel passed away peacefully after a long term illness on his 77th birthday. He was born on October 3, 1940 to Randolph (Buster) Deibel, and Gladys (Bird) Deibel. He attended grade school at Wolf Creek School, graduated from Broadus High School and attended Montana State College for three years. He starting ranching by leasing his grandparents place on the Coalwood Divide. He married Peggy Stewart (Jones) in 1961 and out of that union had four daughters. In 1964 he bought the Milton Simpson Ranch at Volborg, Montana, and added land to that ranch for the next 40 years. He married Mary Lou Malone Minow in 1982 and added 6 step children to his family. Jack and Mary Lou purchased the Miles City Saddlery in 1989. He was a huge collector of western memorabilia and collected many spurs, guns and saddles.
Jack took great pride in his farming and cattle. He spent his time raising his Hereford and Hereford Angus cross cattle. He also took a lot of care to raise his wheat, to the extent that all the kids spent a lot of time picking rocks or wild rye out of the fields.
In 2007, Jack sold the ranch to neighbors that he knew would be good caretakers, and moved to a small irrigated farm east of Miles City. There he could not sit idle, so he built the Meadows RV Park. He got offended when introduced as “retired”. He merely saw it as a different occupation. He enjoyed visiting with everyone who passed through the RV Park and the Saddlery. In his “non-retirement” he enjoyed the company of Jack Larson, Steve Castellano, Doug Gaskill and many others.
Jack and Mary Lou enjoyed taking their RV down to Arizona to visit big brother Myron, and Mary Lou’s brother, Walter. He tried not to ever miss a National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. Most of his friends and family always knew there would be a bag of Red Man chewing tobacco in his vehicle somewhere and he often enjoyed a good cigar with Myron, Pete and Leroy. Back in the days, he could be found coyote hunting with Pete and LeRoy, or flying over to see Doug Gaskill and other neighbors. He enjoyed flying his Cessna and flew a lot checking water and cattle. He and Mary Lou liked to fish and often enjoyed a few fishing trips to Canada for the “bigger” fish. He was a huge Montana State Bobcat football fan and also enjoyed watching the grandkids play football and basketball. He never missed a chance to tell whomever would listen, how the game should have gone, in his opinion. Jack was a member of the Montana Stockgrowers Association, Masons, Al Bedoo Shriners, a Range Riders Board Member and a 4-H leader.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, brother Myron (Betsy) Deibel, sister Doris Abarr and her son John, daughters Jackee (Craig) Randall and their kids, Lee (Missy), Kari (Cory), Tayler and Jay; Wendee (Aaron) Essex and their kids Truman (Justine) and Tyler; Karalee (Warren) Fritz and their kids, Henry and Jack; and Kristee (Ward) Weischedel and their kids Jessica (Jay) and Riley. His stepchildren, Shelley (Tracey) Zastoupil and their kids Zachery and Ryan; Tracy (Gill) Speelmon and her kids, Mariah (Carlton) and Drew; Tammy (Mark) Gnerer and their kids, Justin (Heather), Lucas, and Jeremy; Teresa (Dennis) Dorvall and her kids, Michael, Tressa (Kyle) and Kayla; Stephanie (Justin) Nedens and their kids, Seth and Gavin; and Gregory (Alicia) and their kids, Max, Landon, and Savannah. He is also survived by numerous great grandkids and great step grandkids. He is preceded in death by his parents Buster and Gladys Deibel, his sister Lee Hubbard, grandson Joshua Deibel Randall, nephew Randolph Earl Deibel, brother-in-law Harley Abarr as well as good friend LeRoy Hyatt.

I am so sorry to hear about Jack. We fought when I was a youngster & playing with his sisters, we were in 4-H together, were at a lot of brandings, Jack always teased me! He was the one who called me when my dear lifelong friend, his little sister Lee Hubbard died. Last Fall my brother Ken & I visited Jack at the hospital several times when our Coila was there. The Deibel families were always part of My Montana times. Mary Lou, I am sorry for your loss. These last months must have been so difficult. Jackee, Wendee, Carolee & Kristee, I grieve with you in the loss of your Dad. Hold on to your memories. Myron & Doris I grieve with you in the loss of another sibling.

Wendee, Kristee, Karalee, Mary Lou & family, I’m so sorry to hear of Jacks passing. Please know you all are in our thoughts & prayers. Jack was a man of many stories. I got to know Jack when I worked at KATL. I would visit him at the camp ground to “try” to convince him why he should advertise with us. He would always come up with many more reasons why he shouldn’t in between stories of course. He even talked me into helping out at the campground on the weekends for a bit. ? He was definitely the better sales man! I did manage to get 1 sale out of him when he first opened up!
I know Jack loved his family more than anything as he was always so proud to talk about them. Jack will be missed by many.

We knew him when we lived in Miles City but have lived in SD for about 14 years so when we brought our 5th wheel to Miles City we would park and stay a few nights at the Meadows RV Park and every time he would spot us there and stop in and visit with us. Always had a fun visit. He will be missed by many.
