Jack Knobloch, Sr., Birney, MT, died in Miles City, MT on May 5, 2013.
He was born in Sheridan, WY August 17, 1938 to Albert and Madge Knobloch. He grew up and spent his entire life on the family ranch north of Birney. He attended Birney Grade School and graduated from St. Labre Catholic High School in 1956. After graduation, he took over the family ranch operations. On April 3, 1966, he married Marjorie Fjell of Birney and they were blessed with five children whom they raised, grew up with, played with, worked with and loved. In 1972, they expanded the ranching operation by purchasing the Wagner ranch ten miles north of the home place where he spent his life continuously improving their land and cattle. He achieved his dream of becoming a pilot in the mid-seventies and enjoyed flying whether for work or fun. His favorite pasttimes were spending time with family and ranching.
Jack was involved in his community by serving on various boards including Tongue River Water Users, S.C.S., Rosebud County Planning Board, Ashland Public School board and Tongue River Electric Co-Op board. He especially loved serving on the Parish Council at St. Labre.
Jack had a deep faith, instilled in him by his mother, brother and the Priests and Sisters of St. Labre…a faith that grew and sustained him throughout all of his life. Jack was a true gentleman in every sense of the word, treating everyone with respect, caring and understanding. He was a great listener and loved to have people share their stories with him.
Loving survivors include his wife, Marjorie; daughter Karen (Jay) Hodges; Jack Jr (Kim) Knobloch; Albert (Joan) Knobloch; Philip (Kathy) Knobloch; son-in-law John Elliot; fourteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Linhart-Sumer; numerous nephews, nieces and god-children. He was proceeded in death by his parents; brother, Roy Knobloch; daughter Lee Anne Elliot; and three nephews, Carl Linhart, Bobby Linhart and Elmer Fjell III.
A Vigil service will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the St Labre Mission. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Labre Mission. Kelly told me today of Jack ‘s passing. You have my deepest and sincere condolences. You were all so fortunate to have Jack guiding your family. He was a good man in every way, from husband and father, and is a huge loss to the community. I nearly always feel when someone like Jack passes, that you should have been able to have him a few more years, but, sadly, that just isn’t up to us. Thank God for all the years you did have. You are in my prayers.

Fr. Jim Antoine says
Dear Margie and family,
My heart has been with you in prayer since I learned of Jack’s passing. I have always felt close to you and Jack. My days serving the churches of Birney Post and Birney Day brought me the blessing of knowing Jack and all of you. He was truly a very special kind hearted and good person who loved and cared for the people around him. His deep faith and spontaneous good heartedness blessed me so many times during the years. I remember so many of my visits to your home, the conversations we had and the meals we enjoyed together. I always went home to St. Labre happier. I always felt that you and Jack wonderfully complemented each other as a couple with a spirit of warmheartedness that welcomed all whom you met. I have two special memories of Jack. One was his coming to Christmas eve Mass in Birney Day in order to be able to play Santa Claus for his children that particular night. The other is that he is the only person who ever got me on a horse at the ranch. My heart is with you in love and gratitude for this very special person who enriched your lives and mine. I don’t believe Jack has left us. He has only entered another demension of Life in which he will continue to touch us with the Love who is God. I want to thank you for sharing your beloved husband and father with me. Love, Fr. Jim

Dear Family and Friends of Jack Knobloch – Please be comforted by promises found in the Bible at this difficult time. Continue to dwell on the happy memories and fine qualities that you remember about Mr. Knobloch. Death and suffering was not part of Almighty God’s purpose for mankind. Everything that God created was “very good” (Genesis 1:31). Sickness and death came to mankind due to Adam’s disobedience (Genesis 2:17). Because of Jesus sacrifice , hope of everlasting life was restored. The Bible promises that suffering and death will be done away with (Revelation 21:4). Meanwhile we have the opportunity to follow Jesus’ instruction to continue to take in Bible knowledge which gives us comfort and hope (John 17:3).

Mrs. Knobloch, I did not know Mr. Knobloch, but want to extend my sincere sympathy to you and to his sister Elizabeth. After reading the obituary, it is evident that he was a much talented individual, and you and the community will miss him greatly. I know Elizabeth from high school in Bradenton, Florida, where whe and I were senior classmates, but we have lost touch.
Again, my sincere sympathy for your loss.
Larry Thomas says
Margie and Family,
I wish I could say I knew Jack really well, but I did not. I met him several times at a St Labre Bible Study and during church (and developed a brief friendship with him during those times). Jack was an impressive, quiet, and godly man, what many people would call a “gentle giant” of a man. He was a man I wish I had gotten to know much better. Jack was a man you could learn much from (not just in the ranching realm but as a husband and father as well). He leaves behind a wonderful and godly wife and a family he would be very proud of (children and grandchildren alike). Thank Jack for the time you shared with me. God bless you all!
