Visitation: Sunday, August 6, 2006 with family receiving friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City.

Funeral Service: Monday, August 7, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Miles City.

Interment: Custer County Cemetery

Jack Murray, age 87, of Miles City passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was born in Ballinger, Texas on June 6, 1919, the son of William and Cynthia (Wood) Murray. He attended schools in Ballinger and graduated from Granger High School in Granger. Following graduation, he attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. Jack started his ranching career, working for his uncle, Judge DB Wood. Five years later, he purchased his own ranch in Georgetown. On September 8, 1946, Jack married Frances Helen Love in Cleburne, Texas. He continued to ranch until 1982, when they moved to Miles City where they purchased the Ray Saddler Ranch in 1972. He continued to operate the ranch with his family until his death.

Jack was a member of the Deputy Sheriff Posse in Texas, was Deacon at the First Baptist Church in Texas, member of the Miles City Club, Range Riders, First Methodist Church, and Texas Stock Growers, and R-Calf USA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, watching football and most of all family gatherings.

Jack is survived by three sons: Lige Murray and his wife Mary Ann of Jordan, MT; Bill Murray and his wife Arla Jeanne of Miles City, MT; and Diaz Murray and his wife Laura of Wichita Falls, TX; a daughter, Mary Helen Mitchell and her husband Ron of Fulshear, TX; a sister, Martha Daeschner and husband Dr. BillDaeshner of Galveston, TX; two sisters-in-law,Leta Jo Murray of Miles City, MT and Marguerite Murray of Georgetown, TX; four grandchildren: Lige Walker Murray, J.C. (Jodi) Murray, Walter (Angela) Murray and Lauren Mitchell; seven great grandchildren: Kylie, Reed, Hanna, Thomas, Cordell, Gagen, and Ava. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Frances Helen Murray in 1998, and two brothers: W.D. Murray and Tom Murray.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2006 with family receiving friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 7, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery.
