Jacob Dyba, age 10, passed unexpectedly on April 5, 2024 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Billings.
Jacob was born in Miles City in the early hours of Tuesday, June 4, 2013, the son of David and Sarah (Hall) Dyba. At 2 ½ months, Jacob faced many challenges with breathing issues that required multiple surgeries at Denver Children’s Hospital. When he was 1 ½ years, he was blessed with a brother, Mason who was his best friend. From a young age Jacob developed a love for swings which continued throughout his life. At the age of 3, Jacob was diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. We sure didn’t realize how truly special our boy would be.
Jacob was a best friend to everyone, kind, sweet, caring infectious smile, always a twinkle in his eye. He had more energy than most. Anyone that knew Jacob knew that he loved sweets, Kit Kats or Hershey bars were his favorite. Mac n cheese and pizza “without cheese” were weekly occurrences in our house with fish crackers on the side. When he wasn’t in school, he was at home making his family happy beyond measure.
Jacob had a love for music throughout his life. He also loved bright colors, red, pink and neon being his favorites. He also loved trains and railroad crossings. His favorite pastime was going shopping. He had many lines he would say, his favorite “Did you have fun shopping at Walmart?”. In his recent weeks he was learning to be braver and to have courage. He was the most amazing drawer; he liked to draw a certain building and then would bug us silly until we took him there. He had a great imagination and was always building or creating new things. He loved many holidays, but Christmas was his favorite. First sight of snow the tree would be up. His birthday, the tree would be up for an extra Christmas celebration. Jacob loved Paw Patrol, it was his favorite show, but he enjoyed many others too. Skye is his favorite pup. Jacob enjoyed a good road trip. He loved to just look out the window. In his short time, he was with us he changed the world for the better in so many ways.
Jacob was preceded in death by his grandfather Fred William Hall Jr. and his great grandmother Donna Paulson. He is survived by his parents David and Sarah Dyba; his brother Mason; Grandparents Max and Kathy Dyba, Clancy & Rosa Nerbonne, Susan Hall and many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
Special thanks to the staff at Holy Rosary, St. Vincent Healthcare, Miles City School District, Father Jolly, the catholic church and Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home.

Erin Hould says
Oh how I love this boy! Jacob inspired me to be who I am today in my career. He showed me what true I nclusion looks like as I was his kindergarten teacher and our classroom was only complete with him in the room with us. His friends lit up when he was as there and all learned what love is from him. The following year, I moved positions and became the special education teacher. I was blessed to have Jacob the next couple of years. I will for ever miss his silliness, his twinkle in his eyes, and him telling me I was outrageous because it was time to work. 🤪 love you Jacob and your family, until we meet again…I enjoy all the cheese crackers heaven has to offer.
Jennifer Peabody says
Jacob was a vibrant little fella, so full of life. He had that sparkle in his eye and the pace of a child on a mission. What a beautiful mind and a loving soul. He adored his mom ,dad and brother. He lit up when they entered the scene. Jacob. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Erika Marmon says

I sent you all a big hug through our mutual friend, Ms. Ashley, and have been thinking of you all week. I want you to know what a pleasure it was to work with Jacob over the past year and a half. A huge part of his success was because of you–Mom, Dad, and Mason–and how much you loved him. I felt it every time I’ve been around you all and can’t imagine what you’re experiencing at this moment. Jacob brightened the days of all who knew him. I miss him greatly and will always remember him. God bless you, Sarah, David, and Mason.
Father Leo McDowell says
